Product Description

Supernatural comedy-drama Being Human has been a major hit for BBC3 and is one the most popular items on iPlayer. Set in Bristol it's the story of three 20-somethings trying to find their way in the world with the twist that they are a werewolf, vampire and a ghost. Richard Wells is an accomplished film and TV composer having written the scores for Ong Bak, Doghouse and Mutant Chronicles, the latter released by Silva Screen in 2009. His music for Being Human was nominated for the BAFTA Original Television Music award in 2010. This release features music from series one and two. 'Richard doesn't just compose a good soundtrack. These are haunting and beautiful pieces of music in their own right' Toby Whithouse , writer & creator of Being Human.

This is definitely one of those CDs which you have to listen to a couple of times, and allow to mull in your mind, before judging. When I bought it and had my first listen, I wondered if I'd have been better off saving money by purchasing a few of the good tracks individually. However, gradually I started to appreciate more of the tracks, and I'm now glad that I bought the entire album. There are several tracks that I deleted (some because they felt too trivial, others because they were just pure nightmare, like "Annie's Door", and listening to stuff like that is just disturbing for me) but overall it's a solid soundtrack.

The best tracks if you're thinking of buying a few individual ones are "Being Human", "A Wonderful Thing" (played to great effect during the climatic finale of Series 3 when you-know-what happens), "Vampire Annihilation", and, a personal favourite, "Resurrection". If you're looking to buy the entire album, there are a few bonus tracks offered if you get it on iTunes (which is where I got it) but these ones aren't anything to write home about.

What really makes this soundtrack is its atmosphere. There's a real sense of desolation/mysticism/darkness/history. Great for writing to if you're into that. My regret is that the best themes don't get nearly as developed as they deserve to be - though perhaps Richard Wells might get to do that in later series?

Not only we have entered the long months of waiting between 2 seasons of Being Human, but contrary to season 1 where Nina was a door to an interesting season 2; season 2 Annie as the key to the cliffhanger for season 3, we all know our Dear Mitchell is departed for good, or bad depending on what is waiting for a vampire in the Afterlife. Season 4 door is to start a fight between our bereaved trio and the Old Ones. This record will bring back a time where our Irish vamp was still around, a wonderful sound track to ease our tears, and help plod on until T Whithouse finally opens his gates again to his many fans. Excellent music, Richard Wells should get an award! It is about time the Baftas recognize the hard work behind the quickly dismissed "oh, it is a horror flick", they need to understand the very elaborate good work which is needed to achieve such a high standard of quality. Buy that record, you will not regret it

Gone are the days when TV scores sounded cheap and nasty. This soundtrack is absolutely brilliant. There are a lot of different styles crammed into this CD. Atmospheric, action, suspense, horror and some slower more tender tracks, this release has them all. There is a good mix of orchestral and electronic elements which compliment each other perfectly. I prefer the more orchestral tracks with a hint of choir/solo vocals but I do think there is something here for everyone who likes any of the things listed above.

The criticism I could give is that some of the tracks are a little short and feel like they could do with a little more in the way of thematic development, but this is a very minor quibble. Also, this one CD combines the music from Series 1 and 2 so there may be some specific musical cues which are missing, or that you specifically want. If in doubt, check the MP3 samples!

Overall, whilst there is nothing groundbreaking about any of the themes or ideas, the quality of the music is very high, especially for a TV show. Running in at just over 45 minutes, I was yearning for more by the end and hope they plan on further releases for this fantastic series!

i had preordered this soundtrack when i first heard that it was coming out, and had been waiting for it since i first saw the series when it first aired. the music is amazing and is a perfect counterpart to the actual show where they go hand in hand together. The guitar solos are amazing and rustic, and as you listen to the music you get the feel and emotion that richard wells put into the soundtrack and it describes the series to a T. a vampire, ghost and werewolf could not ask for a better tekevion soundtrack than this. if your not sure listen to some of my favorite tracks to get your own idea.

- being human
- annie's theme
- ancestor's
- a wonderful thing
- resurrection
- leaving
- someone else
- nina and george
- full moon
