I have never read a book where I have gone from detesting, hating, wishing death to the hero, then loving him, through Claire's eyes.
Now, from Tonys POV, I'm back to square one. I hate him again. The cold calculating, manipulating control freak, has me shouting at my kindle again.
This story is absolutely awesome. How a human being can treat another human like he did is beyond me. The story of how he tried to break her because of a vendetta is heartbreaking.
Aleatha Romig is a genius. This story deserves so many more stars. Bravo!
Ever wondered what was really happening inside that relentless, cold, calculating mind of Tony Rawlings? Well here is your chance as the man behind the curtain is about to unveil himself in all his infinite glory as he recounts, in his own words, pivotal scenes that took place in Consequences.
From the first meeting with Claire and her impending incarceration in Iowa, to the dreaded 'Accident' scene and beyond, Behind His Eyes takes you back to that place that had many of us clenching our e-readers in disbelief, in anger, in trepidation...and fear, as this passionate, all-consuming man stops at nothing to execute his master plans with methodical precision.
This takes you back to the time when Tony Rawlings was a monster. And yet...how is it I still hung on to every word? Every damning consequence played havoc with my emotions but I could still see that doubt, those moments of uncertainty in that impenetrable armour, shine.
As a character he has to be one of the most complex I have seen. His thought-process and justification for certain actions made me understand him a little more fully. For me, even though I still hated him in parts, it made me realise his hunger for power, for order, derived from insecurity. Failure was not an option!
Claire Nichols, our heroine, our victim, and the woman who turned the life of a ruthless businessman on its head... she certainly came across a little more meek and mild than I remember, which just goes to prove that she played her part very well!Read more ›
If you have read the books then you no doubt went through the same kind of emotions that I did where Tony is concerned, you probably went from hating him to guiltily loving him to just plain loving him!! It was for the reason that I had come to love him that I was really frightened at how I would feel about him when reading the story from his perspective.
This book is not a complete retelling of the story from Tony's POV, it contains scenes from Consequences that were pivotal to the story. Yes it contains the accident scene and what happened afterwards while Claire was unconscious. This was hard to read but yet gripped me at the same time. At the end of the book I was back with the same emotion that I had for him after reading Consequences, hate, although knowing what I know from having read the original trilogy there was a dash of pity thrown in.
Under normal circumstances this would not be a 5 star review, however as a companion novel to a fantastic book this just adds to the story in a great way. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series from his POV. It's going to be an interesting ride.

Rather than review one of the books - I'm reviewing all of them combined because it wouldn't have been a complete story without all. Read morePublished on 8 Jun. 2015 by Mrs. T. A. M. Gray
