Don't for a minute be fooled by any of the five star reviews on here - they cannot be legit.
The book is utter dross. Don't waste your money

I couldn't put this book down - for all the wrong reasons. Surely it would improve, become more believable? But no. Just more and more of far fetched tosh. The advertising blurb says that this is for you if you enjoyed GIrl On The Train. No, it's not. One got the genre so right, the other so wrong. Life is too short to persevere with such nonsense.

Hardly worth reading. The theme was totally unbelievable. Won't read another book by this author. A complete waste of time

A fantastic, gripping, sometimes frightening read. I felt like stepping into the book myself to finish him off. A little rushed at the end but I simply couldn't put it down. Surprised by the 1 and 2 star comments but each to their own. This author's second boom is also good. Can't wait to see what her third will be like.

Unfortunately, I just did not believe that the main character wouldn't take one of the many, many opportunities given to her to escape. All she needed to do was ask her sister when in the loo to tell Janice to call the police to search her house one day when hubby was at work. They would have found all the evidence they needed in a few minutes- when they found her locked in her room with bars on the windows, steel shutters raised downstairs and a sinister red room in the basement. How much evidence do police need?! And, even if (on the remotest chance) they didn't believe there was any foul play, at least she'd be let out the house by the police and then be free to escape with her sister to a new life somewhere.

Loved it. Definitely slightly chilling - you never knows what goes on behind closed doors, do you? How many people do we know who don't reveal the truth. Read it!

Read this for our book group and suffice to say none of us liked it at all. Yes, the story covers aspects of domestic violence that do go on but it wasn't really believable and the characters just "grated" unfortunately. It was difficult to warm to the victim - you feel you should be very sorry for her but she does so little to help herself and she didn't seem very real really.
A disappointing purchase.

When I first started to read this book I thought it was going to be a love story as I hadn't read the blurb. How wrong I was. It's about a man who gets married and doesn't actually want his wife but wants to us her to get to her sister. Expertly written. A real page turner.
