An excellent and extremely practical book that deals with the subtle issue of behaviour management. Peter Hook is an expert in this field and provides lots of useful advice to equip teachers with the right "tools" for the job. Recommended for anyone embarking on their teaching career.

Peter Hook came and spoke to us on INSET last year and went through many of the strategies used in this book. This is not an encyclopedia, or a long investigation into the reasons behind poor classroom behaviour, but it is a pcoket book -I keep mine in my classroom desk drawer - which is packed with simple, straightforward and practical advice. Excellent examples of the Language of Choice to use. Invaluable.

The whole set of these pocketbooks are great. I liked this one as it offers great advice, in simple language. It gives you ready to use ideas and really makes you think about obtaining the positive out of many situations and so much of it from the language that we use. Some of the ideas are a little stomach turningly cheesy and seem exhausting when we are usually already tired, but on the whole a useful little book.

As a teacher, I felt a need to 'go back to basics' over the school holidays. I decided to dive into this little tome for thirty minutes each weekday. It reminded me of a lot of 'good practice' that I had forgotten, and introduced a number of good ideas and suggestions to help me face the coming academic year with optimism. The book is short and sweet: which is just what I wanted/needed. Sometimes, less is more.

Im training to be a teacher and this book was recommended to me by a school. They used the behaviour strategies in it and they were very effective. The book is clearly set out and easy to read and understand. The book is also pocket sized and so can fit in your handbag if you need to have a quick look when you are out on school placement or if you are a teahcer already, to fit in your draw. The ideas are good and mainly based around childrens actions being choices.

I would highly recommend this book!

I was given this book when I was training to teach in primary school 10 years ago. I found it invaluable at the time. I then moved into FE and sold all the books I thought I no longer needed. 3 weeks ago I began teaching in a secondary school and I have bought this book again. It is quick to look for ideas in and makes you feel you are not useless and loosing the plot. It will never be resold again.

Good range of tips and ideas on what to do, when and how in terms of developing behaviour management skills. I love all the pocketbooks as they are so quick and easy to read and always add to your toolkit of ideas and strategies.
