Product Description

Review

"Despite a close, long-standing affiliation with humans, the domesticated cat remains an essential predator. The principal key to understanding the cat's behavioral repertoire is recognition of the fact that most of it derives from the cat's ancestral roots as a solitary hunter. The authors discuss behavior in the context of underlying neutral and sensory physiology. They also address developmental aspects of behavior, including socialization and the influence of kitten playfulness on subsequent adult behavior. The book briefly considers select behavioral problems in relation to disease states and to the complex social systems of cats. The latter, while typically appearing in multi-cat households, are often not appreciated by pet owners. This well-written, interesting book provides a great deal of information about the underlying mechanisms of behavior in domestic cats. The updated edition (1st ed., 1992) will be a valuable resource for anyone interested in the study of ethology. Summing Up: Highly recommended."--A. Brass, independent scholar "Choice "

Fantastic book, no matter how experienced and knowledgeable you are on the subject, there are still intriguing new things to learn in this book. It is all well laid out and succinctly worded, with useful diagrams where needed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about cats, whether in a professional capacity or simply as a cat lover.

HASH(0x9504c864) out of 5 stars This is highly technical and scientific look at cat behavior ... 30 Nov. 2014

This is highly technical and scientific look at cat behavior. It will be a bit dry and heavy for someone who is not a vet, vet tech, or professional behaviorist. For those "in the business", it is a must.

HASH(0x95ee0ae0) out of 5 stars Unbelievable price! 30 April 2014
By RL Marcum - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
How can Amazon (or anyone) possibly justify the listed price for this PAPERBACK book? It's just as bad on Amazon.uk.

I'm currently reading Bradshaw's "Cat Sense" -- a very interesting, informative, and reasonably priced book. I would love to acquire this one, too, but not at the cost of my firstborn!

(Star rating based strictly on ridiculous price.)
