About the Author

Joanna Chambers always wanted to write. In between studying, finding a proper grown up job, getting married and having kids, she spent many hours staring at blank sheets of paper and chewing pens. That changed when she rediscovered her love of romance and found her muse. Joanna's muse likes red wine, coffee and won't let Joanna clean the house or watch television.

This one is much quicker on plot narrative than the scene setting of the first book. There us also a much greater level of connection between our erstwhile heroes.

Two years later, this centres around the true historical event of George IV's visit to Scotland at the behest of Sir Walter Scott, novelist and the starting point for the romanticism of the Highland way of life.

I love it when a history novel uses real events to wrap its story around and this one is filled with it.

David and Murdo are thrown together once again but this time there is a much deeper connection being forged between them as the rights of married women become central to the political thriller nature of this series.

I'm also hoping that the delightful Captain Sinclair is going to get his own book, I find him most intriguing.

Well-written, well-constructed m/m romance plus adventure (of a domestic UK-based kind). For once, a historical novel set in the UK written by a British-English writer, so none of the jolting anomalies of language or historical events which one sometimes has to ignore in other novels. This is the second of a 3-part story and really they could have been published as one novel. However each part comes to a fairly satisfying conclusion without finally resolving the characters' situation and you take a smaller risk by having to spend much less money.

This is an excellent second book in this series, developing characters and themes within a convincing historical setting. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe-type incident with George IV, which was an amusing plot device. This combination of social history and character-driven story ticks all the boxes for this reader.

I love Murdo... I mean I also love David, but Murdo has that little spot in my heart... book 2 in this series is not letting up on the history and the descriptions and the love... *melts*

Wonderful characters that you love and want to strangle in equal measure. Excellent writing and lovely, twisting plot. Certainly recommended.
