What I *am* hungry for is an incentive to monetize my own apps (and other creations) to as wide an audience as possible, without having to learn (and often relearn) very specific and proprietary languages (think Objective-C and Swift), all of this while avoiding a single "walled garden" ecosystem (think App or Windows Store).
Enter FireFox OS which, like any new environment, can seem intimidating at first. 'Beginning Firefox OS HTML5 Game Programming' by Bob Thulfram is already providing the much needed confidence and additional enthusiasm I need to make this a reality.
The author has an excellent approach striking an admirable balance between personable (acknowledging things the way a 'cool' teacher would with a favorite bunch of students) and professional (providing useful code samples and helpful explanations of important details along the way).
As I progress further into this great book, I hope to add to my review, no doubt with more exclamations of appreciation for this gem of a book!
After several tutorials and online courses on the basics of each language, I wanted to know how those pieces could be used together in building Firefox OS games.
This book was exactly what I was looking for. It just surpassed all my expectations for such a low priced eBook.
It starts by showing the three main ways to build games using HTML5.
Apps based on CSS, Canvas or SVG. It shows how those technologies play together without using any frameworks so you can have a clear understanding of the basic concepts and the related code is simple and explained very well.
After that the books goes on about basic collision detection concepts and implementation on each of those three technologies.
The following section explains how to add audio on the examples presented before.
He also brings up a little on device orientation and Storage Options.
