Review from jeannie zelos book reviews
I loved Becky’s Before he was Famous so was really pleased to see this. Noah and Chloe make brief appearances, but its Chloe’s friend Alyssa who’s the main lead. She’s just been dumped by band member Sebastian, and looking at her life and dreams, trying to keep out of the media firestorm that's descended, she applies for and is accepted on the TV programmer Deserted. That reminds me so much of a book I read when I first got my kindle Wicked Games Jill Myles which I just loved. Though they’re both game shows novels set on islands and follow the usual format of challenges and vote outs etc, they are two very different novels but I loved this one just as much. I also read another recently with same base but that was so-so, in fact I can’t even recall title or author...so its not that the format is a success, but the authors talent in using it to create a fabulous story.
I love Becky’s writing style, she made me laugh at times, and cry at others, and a book that can do that has to be a five star read for me. Becky makes them all feel so real, and their emotions come across really genuinely. There was a really disparate group of contestants, and I felt as if I was on the island with them. Of course not everyone is what they seem and as we get to know them better opinions change from those first gut feelings about them. Special star for me was Shan, he was great with his GAYfronts and his over the top camp style. He was so cheery, and really kept spirits up – he provided lots of the laughs. I loved the connection between Alyssa and Joshua, and it was clear from very early that he was hiding something but what? And I did not expect it was that...and was surprised too at who ultimately won. I kept making up scenarios where different contestants could win, but didn’t guess what actually happened. The challenges too were excellent especially given some of the fears people had. Overall its a well balanced, easy to read story and a beautiful moving romance.
Stars: One again Becky gets a five from me

It took me a couple of pages to get into this story and just like with the previous book in the story I could not put the book down once I had picked it up.
Again it focuses on another reality show, this time instead of a talent competition the group are deserted on a desert island with a few needed items and have to compete to in the $1,000,000 prize.
Alyssa is Chloe's best friend (the female star of book one) and things have not been going well for her and her boyfriend so he dumps her.
After seeing the flyer for the show she gets accepted and wants to put herself out there to be famous for being her.
Josh is a survivor teacher and has all sorts of crazy life surviving skills under his belt, but he also has a secret.
There is instant attraction between the pair and they have many things in common and really get on well.
Firm friendships form, games are played and life lessons learned on an island cut off from everything. All the competitors, apart from one or two grow as people, learn who they are again and some even face fears.
Our main characters really show a strong sense of self and you feel them grow, you feel there sadness and their happiness.
The author really has a way of sucking you in and taking you there, right with the characters.
I know that I will be following this author and I really hope there is another book in the series.
Anyway back to business, its dark, gloomy and I have a streaming cold whilst I write this review and the beautiful sunshiney (if that is indeed a word) cover with it gorgeous tropical setting just makes me want to dive right in!
Now this will be a short review because Before He Was Gone is a gorgeous book which just begs to be read so I will give you my best teaser!
So the story is all about Alyssa and Joshua.....
Alyssa starts off extremely badly, she is dumped by her extremely hot musician boyfriend Sebastien (V hot!) knowing she will be publicly mocked as their relationship is/was all over the gossips mags she applies to Deserted a tv show where the contestants are literally abandoned and left to face challenges, to use their brains to survive whilst being constantly watched by the cameras, of course not all of the contestants are really built for this challenge but they all have their own reasons for being there.
Alyssa meets many new people but the mysterious Joshua stands out, he is not like anyone she has met before, she is attracted to him and the feeling seems to be mutual.
As the show continues, friendships are forged and choices in some cases need to be made, Alyssa and Joshua have amazing chemistry but will they act upon it, and who will be the winner of Deserted?
Becky does a marvellous job of bringing her characters to life, you know as soon as you start reading that this is going to be a great read, her characters are not flat on the page they pop out (in some cases I wish they did!) of the page and you feel yourself immersed in the story.
Awarded 4 out of 5
