Uncomplicated. Adventurous. Fun.
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
It was simply a problem that we found frustrating ourselves so decided that instead of complaining we'd try and do something about it! We originally started with the idea of just a beautifully designed compass for a bike, but then thought we could make that smarter - Beeline was born.
What makes your product special?
It's completely different from any kind of cycling navigation device out there at the moment in so many ways. We've put a huge amount of effort into making it beautiful and extremely easy to use. From the strap that connects to any bike in seconds to the intuitive app interface and the month long battery life. Of course the most distinct element is the form of navigation that not only gets you from A to B effectively but liberates you and helps you explore your surroundings
What has been the best part of your experience?
There have been so many great moments along the way. A couple of real highlights have been the Kickstarter campaign, when the world told us they loved what we were making, and then a year on when the first batch of Beelines finally rolled of the production line in their thousands. However, I think the best thing has been building a team of amazingly fun, talented people who we now have the privilege of working with every day

Beeline works as a smart compass, so you set your destination and simply follow the arrow. It sounds almost too simple and I was sceptical at first as to how well it would work, but in practise it's really brilliant and so much better than my Garmin or Google maps for heading somewhere new on my bike.
I've also stumbled across some really great places I would have never found if sticking to the usual sat nav routes.
The app works great on my iPhone 6s and has some really useful features such as letting you add waypoints to your route, which is handy for crossing rivers or just having a little more control over the route you want to take. You can also view all your previous journeys and see how your actual route compared to the Beeline arrow. Updates to the app seem to be happening pretty regularly so I'm looking forward to seeing what features are in the pipeline - being able to pick from preset routes other users have made would be pretty cool!
The product itself is beautifully designed and made. The red colour looks great with my bike and I love how easy it is just to pop on and off the handlebars. The rubber casing seems to do a great job of protecting it, and when you close it up it protects the screen, so you can chuck it in a bag or a pocket without worrying about it.
The display in particular is excellent and very easy to read even under direct sunlight. I love that it shows me just enough information and not too much.
Definitely a great tool for cyclists!
Beeline has a different way of navigating to what I am used to - it doesn't tell you where to turn but points towards your destination and you have to choose where to turn. I'm so glad that I decided to give it a go: I had some great rides over the weekend and can't imagine riding with anything else again. I'm a total Beeline convert.
The Beeline is great. I love how simple the display is - just an arrow that I can glance down at so I can spend most of my time looking around at the scenery or the area and keeping an eye on the road. I also love that I don't have to pre-plan any routes. No sitting at a computer getting points plotted, no paying for maps, I literally just typed in my destination and touched the 'go' button. And there is no way of taking a 'wrong turn' or having to wait for routes to be 're-configured' either! I even discovered a delicious cafe that is not far away from where I lived but that I had just never gone past before.
Of course I did have to pay more attention to dead ends and one way roads but that's no different to driving a car. When I had to cross the river a couple of times I just dropped a pin on the bridges that I wanted to ride over to make sure that I didn't miss them.
The Beeline has a speedo too and all of your rides get saved in the free app. It comes with a really strong feeling silicon strap that you can just loop around the handlebars. It stayed on really well over bumpy ground.
I contacted the Beeline team as I had some questions about set-up and the customer service was excellent too. I will definitely recommend this to my friends. Only thing I would like is to be able to use the ride sharing feature (that I've seen on Instagram) on my iPhone.
- Lots of annoyingly having to stop cycling to get my phone out of my pocket and check I'm heading the right way. (No way was I strapping by expensive phone to my handlebars!)
- Plenty of google-instructed cycling on busy roads.
- Lots of trying to remember routes that looked good then being frustrated that I couldn't remember them.
LAB (life after Beeline):
- No more stopping to check phone.
- My rides have a sense of being much more 'free'. I can make educated 'spur of the moment' route decisions.
- I love being able to take a chance on an interesting looking road knowing that it is in a direction that will help me.
- I get a great little map of my route post ride. No complex app with a billion bits of data to try to understand - just simple, useful graphics and key info.
- Several fellow riders have asked me what my Beeline is whilst stopped at traffic lights - it looks great!
- I have discovered new places I wouldn't have otherwise.
I expect it would be a different experience using a Beeline in the countryside, but for city/urban riding it is awesome!
Beeline is a hardy little thing that really helps me explore my city.
I bought this for a cycling holiday in Cornwall. I can see how this could work well in a city (especially a city on a grid system) where a dead end or one way street is only going to cause you a few seconds delay. However in situations where a railway, river, hill etc could cause you a delay of an hour or more, using this device on its own isn't enough. I ended up having to use google maps as well, and the two running at the same time caused a massive battery drain on my phone. It's true that you can set waypoints, but this is quite time consuming and I didn't find the interface intuitive.
A few people have mentioned this issue on their website, and it will be interesting to see what solution they come up with. Personally I'd like a google maps integration so that you can use navigation steps if you want to.

I'm even impressed at the waterproofness of it. I recently, albeit, inadvertantly 'washed' it!Read more
