This was so good, when I read the first book James Black in May 2015.. I absolutely loved it and gave a 5* review and expressed how I couldn't wait for Becoming James Black to come out.
It wasn't until last week when I decided to check through some of my authors to see if I had overlooked any new releases, when I looked up Skye Turner I couldn't believe it.. Becoming James Black was staring at me!
I quickly downloaded it with a view of reading it straight away but I needed a refresh, I couldn't help myself, I had to read James Black again before reading Becoming James Black, it was well worth it.
The storyline throughout both books completely captivates you and as I was reading the first book I was sort of remembering what was going to happen next but it didn't spoil things at all because the way Skye Turner tells it and portrays James, AJ, Scarlet and Hugo's characters and what they're thinking and the way everything is detailed just leaves you wanting more and you realise just how good James Black is and as it ended I was so glad I was going straight onto Becoming James Black.
Becoming James Black gave us all our answers, it was a very compelling, sad and a brutal read, the situation James found himself in at 3yrs old was truly heartbreaking especialy as you could feel how it affected Sam who at the time didn't know James but little did we know he would eventually play an important role in his life, they had a great relationship and I wished Sam could of been his real Dad but he was as good as.
We learnt how Scalett met Hugo and then came into James life and that was through another very sad situation but they would never have met otherwise.

WOW truly amazing book from Skye.

To get the story behind James and how Jaye and Rose became James and Scarlett, was brilliant and very emotional. Even though its fiction this sort thing used to happen and probably still does which is heartbreaking.

Another 5 stars for Skye

HASH(0x900ac51c) out of 5 stars WOW! Another Great MUST read from Skye Turner!!! 1 Oct. 2015

WOW! That is all I can think to say. As always Skye Turner has once again managed to evoke so much emotion with her words. I have read ALL of her books & I will continue to read her books because everything she writes is so great. Her love stories always leave you with hope for the world. You can tell that she puts a little of herself & her soul into everything she writes. This book is not like her others yet it is as equally emotional. I felt my heart physically breaking at times. I was angry, scared, heart broken, hopeful, anxious & determined. The range of emotions were dizzying. I fell in love with Jaye & Rose right from the start. The mother and protector in me wanted to hold them close and rage out against the evils they endured.

The characters are so real, it's as if you are right there with them. I must warn you, be prepared to cry, the subject matter is deep and dark but so very real. So find a quite corner and settle in because you won't be able to put this book down until you finish it. This book is a definite must read!!!!

I have read every single one of Mrs. Turner's books and they have all tugged at my heart strings. However, this one went beyond that. This book is different than the others but in a fantastic way. I wasn't expecting the absolute raw emotion that came from this book. It was gritty and sometimes hard to read because of the content. Don't get me wrong, this content was extremely necessary for the story. It's just the deepest and darkest Mrs. Turner has ever gone.

These characters are so real. You root for the good ones and want to shoot the bad ones. I felt what they felt. When they cried, I cried. When they were scared, I was scared. When they were happy, so was I. This book is an absolute MUST read. Get ready to feel some serious emotion and when it hits you, just let it out. That's what I did.

HASH(0x9026eb40) out of 5 stars A definite must read 6 Oct. 2015
By BETSY WHITLEY - Published on Amazon.com

Once I read James Black, I wanted more of the back story! I needed to know what made Jaye and Rose become James and Scarlett. In Becoming James Back, Skye Turner gives us the entire story of how two innocent lives were forever changed.

BJB is unlike any other book of Skye’s I’ve ever read, and in a good way. I think it is her best work to date. I have read other ‘back stories’ that felt chopped up and thrown together by having large jumps in time, but in BJB, I almost forgot it was a back story. The characters were believable and the storyline is one that almost could be ripped from today’s headlines. How these young children handled themselves was commendable and made me love their characters even more. It also proves that you should never let your situation and circumstances define who you are and what your future holds.

James and Scarlett suffered greatly at the hands of those put in place to protect them. Skye took a subject that is not easy to talk about and made you feel the emotions the characters must have felt during the most important years of their lives. This was a hard subject to read about and yet, you are hooked from the first page until the very last. The secondary characters were well written and had me clinging to every hope that they would also be able to withstand the cruelties they endured for years.

A definite must read.

HASH(0x900ac5ac) out of 5 stars Heartache! 19 Oct. 2015

This book touched my heart in many ways. The things Jaye, Rose and their friends endured was pure touture. I was inconsolable while rooting for them to get out of their hell.
Real life, horrible situations are displayed in detail and will crush you.
You will find yourself rooting for the best when there seems to be no hope. Kudos to Skye Turner for writing about such touching subjects. Through it all I felt she grew so much as a writer. This is saying alot since I've thought all of her stories have been brilliant. This one is different. Brilliant doesn't begin to describe this one.

The book is the follow up to [book:James Black|24819069] and I was lucky enough to receive a copy of both books in exchange for an honest review.

In the first book we meet James and learn he has a huge secret. In this book, we learn more about that secret as this is his and Scarlet childhood story.

It was a very profound book that had lots of elements that may disturb some readers, but I personally think it is an amazing story that touches on subjects that society tends to shy away from.
