Beauty and the Bachelor, A Bachelor Auction Novel,  Naima Simone
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre:  Romance,
Strange how things work out. I’ve got two books on my list currently, carrying the same theme – revenge on the father by way of the daughter – and yet they are two very different books, and treat the plots totally distinct from each other. ( The other book is Sins of my Father,  Lisa Cardiff) They’re both romances but this one delivers the plot more by way of romance and revenge than the suspense of the other read.

Lucas. Cold, calculating and determined to revenge his father. He’s been planning this for fifteen years, and now everything is finally coming together. He needs Sydney though to finally get his plan to fruition. He doesn't know her, but doesn’t think of how this will affect her life, how breaking her engagement will hurt her, change her life, just that she’s integral to his plotting. Then he meets her as part one of his plan, and starts to feel for her. For a long while even though his heart is telling him he’s wrong he’s sticking to his plan, pushing away thoughts of tenderness towards her, pulling forward his original thoughts that she is just a typical spoiled rich girl, even though he can see the opposite applies. He can’t let go of his plan now even if he can see how much it will hurt her.
Its a shortish read at 2431 kindle locations, and yet delivers a sensual read, with some real heat and sexual tension between Lucas and Sydney. That surprised me, as for me usually shorter books just don’t have the space to let me feel I know the characters and care for them.  I liked Sydney, felt for her with her cold parents, obsessed it seems by appearance, and her mother was so objectionable and critical of poor Sydney’s looks.

Lucas Oliver is a self-made billionaire. His focus; to destroy Jason Blake, his weapon, his enemy's daughter Sydney. For Sydney, it's out of the frying pan and into the fire. All her life she's done exactly what her family has told her to do and now she's being manipulated by Lucas.

For Lucas though, the poor guy really tries to stick to his guns, he really does. But his cold heart is totally unprepared for Sydney's big one. She throws him off his game with her generosity and commitment to the youth centre. She's not at all what he pictured in his mind. And though the plan is to destroy the Blake family, he mans up and does the right thing in the end.

I loved the chemistry between Lucas and Sydney. Their single-minded focus and natures are so similar but directed on to completely opposite paths. He's looking for revenge, she's looking for freedom and they both end up finding love.

Since this is a series, I hope we will see more of them in the upcoming titles and hopefully more of Aiden and his woman-wooing ways.

3.75 stars-- BEAUTY AND THE BACHELOR is an adult, contemporary, romantic retelling of the fairytale Beauty and the Beast. This is billionaire Lucas Oliver, and socialite Sydney Blake’s storyline.

Told from dual third person perspectives BEAUTY AND THE BACHELOR focuses on betrayal, revenge and blackmail. Lucas Oliver is determined to destroy Sydney’s father starting with blackmailing Sydney into marriage. What ensues is a building relationship that begins with a bachelor auction, a series of lies and lies by omission-ones that finds our heroine understanding that she has become a pawn in a financial war between billion dollar enterprises.

The relationship between Sydney and Lucas begins acrimoniously as Sydney feels she has no other recourse then to marry Lucas Blake to protect her father from financial ruin. As the storyline builds so too does Lucas and Sydney’s relationship blossoming from spite to friendship to love but all does not go according to plan when Sydney’s believes that Blake has broken his promise. The $ex scenes are intimate, romantic and seductive.

The secondary and supporting characters include Blake’s best friend Aiden who believes that Blake’s need for revenge will not end as expected. We are also introduced to Sydney’s ex fiancé Tyler Reinhold, and her parents Charlene and Jason Blake. Sydney’s mother is all about appearances and with that comes a judgmental attitude and air of superiority.

The world building reveals two family histories connected by lies, deceit and betrayal. The lifestyle of the uber-rich and famous is wrapped in the clichéd beliefs of dominance and power; and sticking it anyone who gets in the way.
