I was recommended this book by an author. They warned me it was a great book and a great twist on zombies, but I'll be honest, I let it sit on my kindle a good couple of weeks before I dived in because I hate new takes on zombies! I'm an old school zombie writer, slow and shambling, brainless and violent.

This is NOT like that and yet it actually IS on so many levels. It's a new twist with a twist of the old finely threaded through.
It was both beautifully poetic and skillfully written, yet dark and full of the most gruesome horror imaginable.

The main character, I couldn't help but get irritated by and yet loved also. It was bizarre.
Daryl Banner took my emotions and squeezed them through a meat grinder, until I came out of the other side all messed up not knowing who to hate and who to love.

This has to be one of my FAVOURITE reads so far this year, and definitely in my top ten for last year too.
Read this. You won't be disappointed, and if you are then you must have picked upa different book to me, because was a fabulous, heartstoppping, crazy, intelligent, well written book.

First I must say, this is one of the best books I have read devoured in I don't know when. 5 stars is not high enough for what I would rate it. It's a post-apocolyptic zombie-ish story which has you thinking ehhh so much of that these days, but no there isn't anything like this. I never had any idea what would happen next. If I would've had 100 guesses to figure out where the plot was headed next in most parts of the story, I would have still gotten it wrong. I have no idea where he came up with this stuff.
"Welcome to the End of Time."

This is the story of Winter. She is recently risen from the dead in a world she does not understand. It appears everything on Earth is dead. Also the state of the natural world (trees, animals, etc) is pretty barren and going extinct. She has no memory of her personal life before, but she does have knowledge of the basic ways of human life. She's quickly all patched up to look as if in a pre-death state-of-being and shown to her own little rundown house for a life of overcast nothingness for all eternity.
I can't tell time here. Silvery grey-o'clock, that's what time it is. Bleak, that's the day of the week.

A cockroach scuttles across the floor, disappears into a crack in the wall. That must be my roommate, a fellow survivor of the end of the world.

The way things go from there, you just have to peruse and examine for yourself. This story is infused with the perfect mix of dry humor, action and moral lesson. Along the way, we find the world is now home to the Undead, the Deathless, humans, and possibly other fantasy-based life-forms, none of which are on peaceful terms. This is book, that I cannot do any justice by writing a long review. It's something that just must be read.

I truly am at a loss for words with this book. It was SO not what I was expecting.
Actually, scrap that. I dont know what I was expecting because I have never read a book in this genre before. So, lets say that it exceeded any expectations that I might have had.

I did have reservations about starting it, purely because Im normally a slushy romance kind of girl, and I wasn't at all sure that I would enjoy it. But, this book blew me away, plain and simple.

I was hooked from page one. It was well written, gripping and incredibly clever. The best bit about it is that it is so fresh and new. There is nothing out there like this right now. I never, ever for one minute thought I would enjoy a book about Zombies!! At one point it actually had me contemplating the possibilities of their existence!!

The Beautiful Dead is, without a doubt, one of the best books i have read so far this year and Daryl Banner is definitely one to watch for the future! I cannot recommend this book highly enough and I definitely will be reading more of this authors work.
