Before listening to theis single I wondered if U2 could still cut it in and R and B - Teenpop dominated environment. How would their sound have changed and was it any good ? Well be assured that this is a great song, a real feel good radio tune that will have you singing in the car at the traffic lights. It has it all; the unmistakable Bono vocal, soaring chorus and classic guitar from the Edge. U2 sound has gone back to its rock roots, this is the sound of a great band playing great music ! Can they still cut it? Yes they can !

Since I've become a U2 fan 2,5 years ago I was waiting for all the hype and excitement coming along with new U2 music. They eased the pain with a brilliant soundtrack, and now they are back with a single that makes waiting for the album almost imbearable. These b-sides are the songs that didn't make it on All That You Can't Leave Behind ? After listening to Beautiful Day for the first time I felt that this song should shatter all this medium stuff in the charts like something from another star. Full of joy, hope and beauty and full of rock, too. And after this there's no coming down. Here is Summer Rain, a song that puts a smile on my face whenever it comes dancing along and which should get power play in every radio station. (It's such a shame it won't ...) And then there is Always, an "embryonic version" of Beautiful Day which shows how U2 are working ... or better, how a song is coming to them. I guess 'til October 30th this single will hardly leave my cd player.

U2 are back, and so is rock n' roll! For all of you who want a real rock band and are tired of bubblegum Britney pop, R&B, and cheap country, , BUY THIS SINGLE. All 3 songs are fresh, simple, thoughtful, have an immediate impact, and are filled with the energy of War or The Joshua Tree. The band's new sound also perfectly incorporates the previous experimentations of Achtung Baby/Zooropa and Pop without being overbearing. Probably the most mature sound they've had in years. Would be 5 stars, but one drawback is Bono's voice, which seems to have suffered a great deal in the last 10 years. He manages well and has shifted his emphasis from raw energy to more measured crooning, but the occasional cracking of his voice and the new limitations of his vocal range are disappointing coming from one of the greatest pop-rock singers alive. Still a great single and a sure buy, though.

Beautiful Day proves once and for all, if any proof were needed, that U2 really are the finest rock band ever. The single is a return to the style of their early work, a la War or the Unforgettable Fire, in that it rocks. Throughout the 90s, U2 experimented, very successfully, with some very varied sounds, but never really sounded like a proper rock and roll band (except at times on Achtung Baby). Beautiful Day however, is possibly the rockiest thing they've done since Pride (In the name of love). It's got a catchy chorus and superb riffs. Overall, it's fantastic, oh, and the B-sides, for once, are also really rather good.

Few acts can claim to have the same freshness and vitality, after so long, as U2. Despite spending over two decades in the music business, in "Beautiful Day" they have produced one of the year's most uplifting tracks. The towering chorus reminds us of the heights that they scaled in the Joshua Tree and indicates that, after years of audacious experimentation, they have returned to their roots and what they do best - making music that is quite simply inspirational.

The men are back, it is time we waved good-bye to the backstreet boys and the rest of those clowns. U2 has put out a single worthy of The Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, and even Achtung Baby. The B-sides make this a wise investment alone, and I am counting down the days until the album hits my CD player. Welcome back.

If you like "One," "Without Or Without You" or "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)", than you'd probably like this single. It's B-Sides are nearly just as good as the A-Side and its this is the closest U2 have got to making a classic song in years. A Must For All U2 Fans.
