My previous pair of Powerbeats had great sound, battery life and unlike some of the comments I never had any issues with sweat breaking them. The only real issue I had was the material that the controls were made from as it would leave a red mark on my shirt collar on my commute. (so, I peeled it off and problem solved)
The Powerbeats 3 arrived and the first thing I did was get them paired up to my iPhone, extremely easy thanks to the new chip Apple designed! I got an instant notification on my phone saying that there was a pair of Powerbeats ready to be connected.
This is where things nearly went wrong for me…
I straight away put the largest earbuds on and started to play some music through Spotify and I was horrified with the audio quality. It almost sounded like they were faulty as there was no depth to the music at all, I would compare the quality to the Earpods that ship with the iPhone.
I immediately paired my Powerbeats 2 and the difference was night and day, so something was seriously up with the new pair… I decided to let them play for a while before I decided that they weren’t up to scratch and filed a refund with Amazon.
I was planning to take them to work on the Monday and drop them off at the nearest place to be sent back, but during the weekend I decided to swap the buds from the old pair to the new pair. This completely changed the sound! I think that because the new buds hadn’t been worn before they struggled to make a proper seal inside my ear, which would explain the appalling sound quality when I first tried to listen to them.
Since then, I cancelled the refund and have used them for nearly two weeks and they have been great. They are definitely a little quiet in comparison to the old pair, and I also think that the bass isn’t as deep but not noticeable enough for me to be dissatisfied.
Overall I would still recommend them, they have come down in price a little since release which is a bonus, but I hope that the next pair of Powerbeats released are “truly wireless” as I nearly opted for the Bose ones until I read the reviews!
Out of the box they look the part, but they came with no plug socket only a fast charge cable. I put them on and adjusted the fitting and the ear buds so I got the best fit for me. I then paired them up with my phone and played my go to song with any new headphones 'Ask Courtney' by Flatbush Zombies. I thought the sound was pretty quiet and went to turn up the volume when to my horror they were at FULL VOLUME and that's after checking the volume on the headphone and my phone and trying the different ear buds.
So I thought I was being overly harsh as I had bought them purely for the gym and not to chill at home or commuting on the bus. At the gym I had finally had the opportunity to put them to the test and MY SWEET GOD they were awful. The sound feels like your listening to the music from your phone from inside you bag. The music from the spin class on the other side of the gym overwhelmed the Powerbeats, people chattering, the slam of the weights on the floor and other background noises made listening to the music pointless and didn't make me feel motivated at all.
The fit is also a shock as they kept falling out my ear and yes as stated I do have abnormally small ear holes but even the clips weren't helping. Doing Incline chest press I felt the tug of the wire from behind my head tugging at my ear and that was with the loosest fitting the wire could provide. After my first set of my first exercise I called it a day and put them back in my gym bag, pulled out my £35 semi-retired JBL's and carried on with my regime.
I am not anti-beats, I just love music and these headphones do not provide motivating music as the sound is very quiet, base is non existent and overall the worst headphones I've listened to. If they were £30 you could accept this quality, but even saying that my £35 JBL's whilst not noise cancelling or the most crisp sounding, they at least made me feel like I was going to Rock Bottom someone after each set!
I give this 1 star for Amazon, as I have to say Amazon have been great, the delivery was fast and came in 24hrs and they were beyond helpful in getting me my full refund so I can invest in the pair of headphones I should have gone with initially!!
Please save your money and avoid these, especially if you struggle with in ear headphones in regards to fit and comfort but even more so if you love music!!
7 months later they wont turn on after charging, this is very common fault it turns out, and ive since learnt apple only warrant the parts for a year. I look after my things, they are not charged until they are dead, and not over charged over night etc, and considering they cost me £160 i would be fuming if they packed up outside just 1 year. Not filled with the greatest confidence they will last me much longer now which has kind of killed the love i once had for this item. Music is a massive part of my gym session, i would consider wired versions to avoid this if i was you. If they break outside the year warranty i will never buy apple products again.
These are, in a word, spectacular! Straight out of the box and on they went. Brilliant sound quality, bass and clarity.
Not the biggest fan of in-ear headphones but these work, the ear hook is a big help to that.
The strap is useful for taking them off and letting them hang round your neck, very nice compact rubberised case provided.
I've been an avid user of various Beats headphones for 7 years now, ignore the 1 star reviews, these are simply superb, quality and build wise.
