This lavish, illustrated journal describes Beatrix Potter's life as a young woman in Victorian Britain as she struggles to achieve independence and to find artistic success and romantic love. Using witty, observant commentary taken from Beatrix’s own diaries, the journal moves London to Scotland to the Lake District, and features a wealth of watercolour paintings, sketches, photographs, letters, paper-engineered items and period memorabilia to recreate a world where nature and imagination are brilliantly combined.

Beatrix Potter is one of the world’s best-loved children’s authors, capturing our imagination for over 100 years with her beautifully illustrated Tales. However, few people are aware of the fascinating woman that Beatrix was or the achievements she accomplished in her lifetime, during an era when ambitious women were not allowed to flourish. An artist, storyteller, botanist, environmentalist, farmer and businesswoman, Potter was a visionary and a trailblazer and left an incredible legacy.

From her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902) she went on to create a series of stories based around animal characters including Mrs Tiggy-winkle, Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten. Her humorous, lively tales and beautiful illustrations have become a natural part of childhood.

Since 1984 more than 150 million Beatrix Potter books have been sold around the world, whilst over 2 million Beatrix Potter books are sold every year worldwide – so one Beatrix Potter books sells somewhere in the world every 15 seconds!

A source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist.

Bought for my mum who has wanted it for a while and she loves it. Great quality

Not quite as expected but very interesting and beautifully presented. I had thought it would be a written journal of Beatrix Potter's own expereinces throughout her career as a writer of childrens books, but it was presented as a book for children to understand and will make a lovely present for a young person who is into Beatrix Potter stories but not a fully proficient reader as yet, it has plenty of interesting items to look at and handle. It was delivered in good condition and well within time set for delivery. Many thanks indeed for another 5 star delivery.

I saw this book years ago but didn't buy. Am a big fan of this lady and have read her biographies etc. What this Journal does is bring her to life in a way no other book has. Beatrix Potter A Journal shows you her letters, drawings and paintings. At the back is a surprise in the hidden away copy of her Peter Rabbit book. It is suitable for all age ranges and anyone who fails to be delighted by the photos and pictures, not least the facsimile letters, has lost touch with magic. Beatrix conveys herself accepting of nature in all its extremes of beauty and cruelty and has to be one of the most philanthropic characters mankind has ever produced. Pleased to have a copy at last!

Ordered this book for my niece having already got one for myself that I'd found in a book shop - loved is soooooooo much I couldn't resist. I was worried about the condition as it said they were used - but when it arrived it was actually in much better condition that the one I had purchased in the shop at 50% more!! I love this book - the illustrations are amazing and the little extras like post cards and the secret pocket at the back with the peter rabit book in it - it's an amazing book - actually I think its my very very best Christmas present purchase so far this year.

What a beautiful book. I bought this book to put away for my Great Niece for when she is older, it is really for children who are a little older and who would take care of such a stunning book.
