Product Description

Product Description

The Magical Mystery Tour was the first Beatles film project following the death of Manager Brian Epstein in August 1967. The film was unscripted as various ordinary people travelled on a charabanc bus, having magical adventures en route. The movie soundtrack was released in the UK in December 1967 and in 1968 received a Grammy Award for the best album reaching the coveted #1 slot in the US for eight weeks. The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour Memories is an upbeat rockumentary film featuring the vivid memories of those who witnessed the making of the cult Beatle movie, The Magical Mystery Tour, in 1967 and features a celebrity cast along with anecdotal stories and unseen 8mm home movie footage, as well as eye-witness accounts from fans, on-lookers and the cast of the movie. Featuring Tony Barrow (Beatles press officer), Mike McCartney (Paul McCartney s brother), Miranda Ward (journalist and friend of the Fab Four), Spencer Davis (Spencer Davis Group), Tony Bramwell (Beatles road manager and close friend of Sir Paul McCartney), Neil Innes (Bonzo Dog Do Da Band), Freda Kelly (principal secretary to the Beatles Fan Club), Dame Peggy Spencer (choreographer), and Victor Spinetti (actor and close friend of John Lennon), sharing their memories with Victor supplying a fascinating commentary to the film. This is a happy, upbeat film comments David Lambert, producer and director of Arthouse Pictures, who produced the movie. Probably the last time the Fab Four were all still getting along. Keith Badman (author and Beatles expert) said I have seen the rough cut screener and can t wait to see the finished programme. It is fantastic. This film is a must have for all Beatles fans worldwide and an opportunity to look back fondly at the heady days of the swinging 60s. Bonus Features: Beatles related stories from Mike McCartney, Freda Kelly, Spencer Davis, Victor Spinetti, Tony Bramwell and Miranda Ward.

Well I did not expect this! its the first excellent DVD release about the Beatles in years, most others are quite bland where this is a breath of fresh air. Victor Spinetti sets the pace and from then on its a ride into the background that surrounded the group during there attempt to make an Art Movie, this tells stories from all sets of people involved the fans through to the members of the cast. I recommend this for any true Beatle fan!

Enjoyable, but the lack of actual Beatles music, or footage from the film (doubtless for legal reasons) is disappointing. Would have preferred to see Spinetti speaking to camera at the actual locations rather than in a studio. The residents memories were really good, especially the Policeman who appeared in the film. Worth watching once, maybe twice, but that's about it.

Why couldn't they have tracked down Little Nicola ?

This is an interesting documentary about the making of the Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour' film. It is narrated by Victor Spinetti, and it comprises of a series of interviews with various participants and eyewitnesses along with some behind the scenes film footage and photographs of the shoot. A lot of the film footage is rather grainy, but the interviews are frequently very good value, especially Neil Innes on the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band's involvement, Victor Spinetti on his role in the film, and Frieda Kelly on how her job as the Beatles' fan club secretary resulted in her getting a place on the coach close to Ringo. There is also a very interesting radio interview with George Harrison, and a somewhat less interesting interview with Ringo, both of which were recorded in Newquay in September 1967 whilst the filming of the mystery tour was still underway. There is no actual footage of the film itself, and the music is mostly instrumental versions of Beatles songs performed by other musicians. This may put some people off, but this documentary is worth checking out if you are a Beatles fanatic.

A Kid's Review on 11 Sept. 2008

The Beatles were THE group of my era and, in my opinion, have never been equalled. This DVD is a real insight into their casual humour and is a real must for anybody who remembers those great days when the Beatles gave Brits of all ages a powerful 'Feel Good Factor', something that is now almost totally lost in these days of control and being ripped of by all and sundry.

This is a good casual look back at some of the 'memories' from the time, especially for those who did not witness Beatle mania first hand. The dvd won't set the world on fire but contains enough footage and thoughts to keep any Beatles fan entertained. My brother in law thoroughly enjoyed it being an avid fan and it goes towards painting a richer picture of the beatles.

Alright I know this DVD used the word "memories" in it's title but it was nothing other than a nostalgia exercise for those involved in the making of The Magical Mystery Tour. I thought at least there would be some decent footage of the actual show itself but alas I became bored after ten minutes.
I shall never watch this DVD again and probably donate it to a charity shop and put it down to bad judgement on my part.

this dvd is a worthy addition to the Beatles canon and very interesting viewing indeed. Lots of footage not seen elsewhere and many intimate stories and anecdotes from people who were there at the time - some well known - Mike McCartney, Spencer Davis, Tony Bramwell, Freda Kelly (Beatles Fan club secretary) etc ... as well as a few unknown local personnel who shared in the Beatles experience in one way or another.. The film is narrated by Victor Spinnetti who appeared in Magical Mystery Tour (MMT) as well as the Help and Hard Day Night movies... He was a good friend of the Beatles, especially John.. One of the characters in this dvd is a female reporter who interviewed the fab four during the filming (sorry, cant remember her name)...amongst other things she mentions Lennon doing cartwheels in anticipation of seeing Hank Marvin that evening and that this is well documented! I've never read about this and cant find anything on the net..Has anybody?? Also Spencer Davis said that his band at the time of MMT (Sept 67)included Steve Winwood..Not true Im afraid as Steve had left to form Traffic several months earlier..and the Spencer Davis Group sadly never had a hit song from that point on..But, if we can put aside concerns about Spencer's bad memory, this is a dvd well worth getting
