Format: Paperback
Pete Best does a nice job in bringing the reader back to 1960, to a time when he was asked to join The Beatles. But he also lets the reader in on the events in his own life, as well as those of his band mates, on events that led up to being accepted as the drummer who would complete the quintet. When Pete joined the band, we learn that there were already four Beatles, including bassist, Stuart Sutcliffe, making Pete the one and only man on earth who can truly claim to be "The 5th Beatle". He vivdly describes his days as The Beatles' drummer. He paints a picture of the band living a life of sex, drugs and rock and roll, although Pete says he passed on the drugs. The stories Pete shares in this book, about the band's days in Hamburg, Germany and about their growing success in Liverpool, about meeting the man who became their manager, Brian Epstein, and right up until the day that said Epstein betrayed Pete's trust in order to usher in a replacement drummer, the reader is given a heartfelt account of the happy days, the sad days and the overall experience of a band that went on to super stardom, but who decided to leave this book's writer behind. We also learn of Pete's post- Beatles years and we are left to admire a humble guy, who while bearing no grudges, always felt he deserved the ride to the top, having been the drummer who helped The Beatles form the sound that made them famous. A most amazing book.

Really pleased with this book. It was in very good condition. An enjoyable read which puts another slant on the early days of the 'cuddly' 'fun-loving' mop-tops that rose to global icon status. In this case what happened on tour didn't stay on tour thanks to an honest account of life on the road rom the author.
