This is the science that everyone needs to know if they're going to find a viable lifestyle and weight plan. The latest thinking on weight control is presented here in a very accessible style, and you're left in no doubt about what you should and should not be eating. Fat is no longer the enemy; sugar and high-fructose corn syrup are the real villains. There's a great explanation of Low GI and GL, and which one's important. The other really useful section I thought was the one about Intermittent Fasting and the 5:2 diet, which gets the thumbs up in this book. No nonsense, just good advice throughout. Highly recommended.

I was searching for something a little different in terms of weight loss books.

Having lost over 45 lbs in little more than 6 months I found that I was having difficulty in maintaining my new healthier weight. My original diet and exercise regime had obviously worked but I found that I was in need of some more advice in order to prevent me from putting the pounds back on. From one week to the next, I was alternating; 3 lbs gained herE, 2 lbs lost there etc. It was getting to be rather annoying and akin to hard work :-(

I was certainly glad I found this book.

It is clear that the author has tried many different diets and approaches to weight loss over the years and that this book taps in to those methods that have proven to be the best long-term weight loss/weight control strategies. Not only did this book reinforce my original weight loss regime, it provided me with a different aspect of weight control that has enabled me to adopt a few more strategies that have proved effective in preventing those extra pounds from creeping back on. After 6 weeks, I can definitely say that with the aid of a slightly new approach I am maintaining the new slimmer and healthier me.

If you fed-up (pun intended) with all those fad diets that seem to work for a few weeks before becoming impossible to follow any more because of the absurd limitations that they impose upon you, then this book delivers. Full of sound, no-nonsense advice, this book explains the choices available to you and describes the methods you can use to give you the motivation to pick the right course of action.

If you are thinking of trying another fashionable diet or slimming product get this book first. I think it is important to know how you become overweight in the first place and how to deal with it successfully. I read with interest history of obesity in modern times. I did not realize that you may gain excess weight by being allergic to a certain food and that an appropriate allergy test may help you to deal with this problem. The author also describes that the dreaded fat may not be the only problem with the food we eat. It seems that sugar can cause more weight gain because our bodies can only utilize a part of the energy from sugar and the rest is stored as..fat in our bodies. There is a lot of sugar in the 'fat free' products to enhance their taste and by eating them you avoid one bad thing replacing it by the other, and here comes the vicious circle.

This well researched book, by Janet Matthews, incorporates all of the latest findings and new insights to help you finally escape from the pain of the never ending diet trap. The book is full of really helpful resources to enable you to make and, more importantly, sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Janet points out the fact that it is sugar and not fat that is the biggest culprit when it comes to losing weight.
I was particularly interested in her views on Intermittent Fasting which is backed up by many scientific studies which she has provided direct links for.
This is a well written, sensible, comprehensive book that brings together the best of our knowledge to date. If you want to escape from your dieting madness once and for all then I would highly recommend this book.

It's so clear to see that the author has a genuine understanding and empathy for people who seem to be transfixed on the latest diet merry-go-round. Janet Matthews presents well researched facts on the diet industry and the various keys to living a healthy lifestyle. You'll recognise the unique trigger that might be holding you back from living a healthy lifestyle by the time you finish this book. A worthy addition to any library.

I loved this book. It is well written and gives you up to date clear information about what is wrong with the diet industry and why so many of us have struggled to beat the diet trap. When you look into the changes that have brought on the obesity epidemic it becomes clear why this has happened and what we need to do to change our lives. Follow this book and watch the weight drop off.
