I’m on the fence with this book and I can’t really put my finger on for why. Maybe it was because the story mirrored Beauty and the Beast a little too much for me, maybe it was a longer and more wordy that it really needed to be or maybe it was the switching of POV’s (h is in 1st H in 3rd) that did it? Or perhaps it was the major hint at the start of the story that pretty much gave the outcome of the story away, whichever it was it didn’t keep my attention at times. Which is a shame as I liked the characters and their story for the most part just everything else going on around them was too distracting.
Frankie was a spunky character that I was pleased to find was quite smart despite being naïve at the start and she played Beast at his game all the way. Beast didn’t live up to his name so much I thought and at the sight of this pretty girl all but rolled over so she could tickle his underbelly. I wanted him to stay aloof and tough, I wanted to see why he was named Beast but I didn’t.
I like the authors writing and she has a lovely descriptive manner but the story just didn’t hold up as dark for me. It started with so much promise but went off track rather quickly. Though being left hanging will have me looking out for the next book to see how the story unfolds more.

Mary Catherine Gebhard has managed to produce another winner with ‘Beast’. This was a rollercoaster ride that I was not expecting but was thrilled that I went on. It was a five star read for me.

By offering herself up as a trade for her fathers life Frankie has no idea what she has let herself in for but neither did Beast when he accepted the trade. Known for being brutal, deadly and decisive Beast may possibly be influenced by this unassuming and naive young woman who was to be nothing more than a slave.

With twists and turns and various mafia fractions vying for power there is a lot more to come in this series and I cannot wait to find out what happens.

A really good read and I really connected with both the characters! Although a little wordy at times with the different nick names etc, I loved the story line (shame the author gave away the ending at the start)!! The ending leaves you hanging! I was so disappointed when I realised the next book isn't available yet. Will look forward to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disheveled Book Blog Review 14 Mar. 2017
By Disheveled Book Blog - Published on Amazon.com

I’m going to try not to gush over this book, but basically I’m going to gush. I’m also going to admit I’ve read this book twice, mhmm, I have. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, after I first read it. From the first pages I was pulled into this story and I devoured it, I had to know what was going to happen next, and why Beast was this way? and what was going to happen to Frankie? Was she going to survive? As the story unravels, my emotions were all over the place, it’s intense, angsty, twisted, dark, and often I found myself questioning my own sanity. It’s a Twisted tale of Beauty and The Beast.

I wanna talk about Beast first, he and Frankie are amazing characters in their own ways but I love Beast. But not in that swoony OMG he’s going to be your next book boyfriend way. I mean sure he could be, maybe. But I might be the only one who does like him, I always have soft spots for the dark and twisted Heroes who's hearts are just buried a little extra deep and guarded. He does some pretty awful things though, but I’m intrigued because there are a few times where he isn’t some crazy lunatic, and those tiny glimpses have me hooked. Could Frankie break him because of that? He’s your perfect Villain, he does as he pleases and it doesn’t matter who he hurts while doing it, he’s feared by everyone and he likes that.

Frankie is strong, she’s courageous, and a bit feisty. In the midst of such a total cluster of madness, she stands tall and strong not once whining about her circumstances. She somewhat embraces it which that helps mold her into a more fierce version of herself. I think this is only the start of what’s to come from her. I have my ideas of what the future for her might hold and to me, with the way this book ended I think that she’s going to amazes us even more in the books to come.

I am left speechless, this book isn’t a hearts and flowers kind of read, it’s a very very dark and ugly story. But I loved each moment, Mary Catherine was able to evoke so much emotion from me. Emotions that with these types of reads very few authors have ever been able to make me feel like I did with this book. It’s not romance, this isn’t a love story, but if that were the case it’d be something entirely different than what it is. I think that this series is going to be amazing, it’ll push boundaries, and to me this is Mary Catherine’s greatest series yet.

I’d like to thank Mary Catherine Gebhard for the gift of an ARC for my honest review, I can’t wait to see what you have planned for us next!

3.0 out of 5 stars Takes a while to get into the story 14 Mar. 2017

It took me a while to get into the story. A good three quarters of the book has passed before I really started to enjoy it. It's not because the story isn't good. In my opinion, the story was good, albeit a bit predictable. It just had a tendency to drag on; I can name a few scenes that can be removed and the story won't change.

I think the author did good in making me feel the push and pull between the two characters, feel them resist the connection. The ending will definitely leave you hanging, but it will also make you anticipate the conclusion to the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to reading more.... 14 Mar. 2017

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
This is my second book by this author so I was excited to receive this ARC because I received and read an ARC of Elastic Hearts and was blown away! So I jumped at the chance to read more of Ms. Gebhard's work. If I ever get caught up on ARC's I am going to start her Owned Series! This book is on the dark side, which I love! I pretty much read anything with the exception of Sci-Fi and Paranormal. And as much as I hate to admit it, the darker and more forbidden, the better! I love to read a book that keeps me wondering what is on the next page, the next chapter. And The Beast definitely did this for me! It's dark and it's a bit twisted, and both of those things are right up there with my favorites! I completely could feel a connection to both the H and the h! Without giving anything away, because I don't review books that way, I'd like to take and shake Gabby! I have very strong mixed feelings about her and definitely look forward to seeing if my suspicions about her are right. There are so many things that I want answers to so I am definitely going to be pondering over this book until I find out the conclusion. I really suck at cliffhangers so please, please don't make me suffer for too long!

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh me oh my! 15 Mar. 2017

Beast and Frankie.... Loved this book! If you love to hate the bad bad men, then this is for you! Mafia madness and lovers delight! It's all here. We all hope to find that someone we can't live without but to what ends would you go to keep them? To make them understand why you are the way you are? Mary Catherine takes us on an incredible journey with this one. And it's only The Beginning. Cliffhanger warning- and it's a GOOD one. I cannot wait to see how this one ends. Love Beast and wanna hurt him all at the same time. Love Frankie and wanna smack her all at the same time. This book.... Can't wait!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beast is a beastly beauty 22 Mar. 2017

I love everything I have read by this author and this is no different. I give it 4.5 stars because I held my breath for the 2 days while I read this (family kept interrupting me) only to discover there is a cliffhanger! WHY??? There was lot told in this story and sometimes I had to reread to keep up and then I would think I knew what was going to happen then something else would and then it ended and I have no closure. I am an open wound! I will now sit with baited breath while I wait for the next book to come out. ( loud audible sigh) Seriously a good read!
