3000 Grit Side:
This fine grit is able to put an edge on a tool or knife that exceeds just about any commercial edge you'll find. This grit is very fine and sharpen very slowly. This is to be used after you've created an edge with more coarse grits.

8000 Grit Side:
This grit is ideal for finishing and polishing the edge. A knife or tool that has been sharpened to this stage will work for any task required.

Instructions to use:
1. Soak the sharpening stone into water for 5 minutes, then put it on a steady surface such as
    a table or a desk.
2. First use the #3000 grit side for fine grinding in 10~30 degree angle, push the knife
    out with a little force, and then gently retracted. This process takes about 15 minutes.
3. Then use the #8000 grit side to polish your knife, don't force too much. This process
    takes about 10 minutes.
4. After sharpening the knife, clean the knife with wet cloth or water, then dry it.
5. Use a soft brush to clean the sharpening stone, then placed in a ventilated place out to dry.

Attention:
1. Do not only use the middle of the sharpening stone, please make full use of the surface
    of the whetstone.
2. Do not use whetstone to sharpen serrated blades and ceramic knife.

This is my update on this item,
I first bought this product and after one use it started to crack along the sides the customer service team contacted me very quickly and was happy to resent me out another one,it came very quickly(the next day) so far it seems very good,had it soaking for the recommended time ,and it sharpen my knife razor sharp I've used it on a few of my knives and I really can't fault this product which shows me that the first one was probably defected but the team was very quick and happy to resolve the issues I'm very happy with their response towards the problem I had,not much people would care about their customers but these people surly do which is very rare these days.

When you open the box there is a small manual which you should read (if you don't know much about how to use it and care for the item

Mirror finish on blades

Great stone for the price, gives me a mirror finish on my kitchen knives, camping knives, chisels and my leather working tools. Such a fine grit that it feels like soap when you build up a slur. Only issue was that the edges chipped after some use, but easily fixed by rounded edges when flattening the stones so that the tool doesn't catch as you head towards the edge of the stone. I flatten mine using 120 grit wet and dry attached to a piece of thick, flat glass and do it every few uses of the stone, in case anyone finds it useful!

Does the job for me

Does the job just fine. The 3000 grit gets the bulk of the work done with the 8000 to finish it off, but to get that last bit of perfection you will need a 10000 or leather / suade strop. Generally, I leave it to soak for 24 hours, but I haven't seen a lot of difference with soaking it for 15 mins before use. When working on blunt knives the 3000 makes pretty quick work of the metal even stainless steel. The 8000 gets a pretty good polish, but obviously not mirror like. I have used this for a variety of kitchen and bushcraft knives with pleasing results. I've also used it on a chisel set, which took an age to get the edge back, but it did it. The 8000 can get a really nice paste worked up which can help get the polished finish.

It comes with 2 rubber frames to sit the block on to prevent sliding, but you only need 1. If you haven't used a whetstone before I suggest you get familiar with some youtube videos. I used to use coarse oilstones before, but will not be going back to oil after using water.

Turning Grumpy

A Rock solid BARGAIN!

The product arrived in a mega protective package. Brilliant!! When I opened it I found exactly what I ordered. However, it did not match my expectations! NO. IT EXCEDED THEM!! The stone has 'presence' It had a rubber 'foot' on both sides. Really good protection against chipping through mishandling or mishaps. The stone itself just 'talked to me'. Crazy I know but it did. I knew it was going to be something special and it is. I went back to the packing slip to see how much/little this had cost me. Honestly, I feel as if I have stolen it. The rubber foot grips the table when I use it, I only remove the one on top. The feel of the knife or chisel as they slide across the stone is extremely communicative. I just know this is doing exactly what I want it to. I started sharpening penknives as a child, my father was killed when I was 41/2 so there was no one to do it for me, and he had owned several stones and a small grindstone. In the shed out of sight, not lighting fires I suppose my mother thought that all was well. I have no recall of ever cutting myself whilst using a sharpening stone. I have quite a collection of stones picked up over the years. I think I have a new 'go to' stone in my arsenal. I have plenty of time to enjoy sharpening my tools and knives to a 'it's a pleasure to use it degree of sharpness. The grin on my face says it all I suppose. :-) Bye!

Decent stone if you need it for home use

Better than average, worthwhile for occasional sharpening of knives etc.

Don’t expect Shapton or King quality, it’s definitely behind those stones in quality, but still useful. For the money, it’s ok and I’ve used it as a middle stone between two King stones (didn’t want to pay lots for a middle stone).

You’ll notice that when soaked it continually emits air bubbles, which says to me it’s not as tightly packed as other higher quality stones, when made. It does need soaking for longer than a King or Shapton stone (I have mainly King stones, with Shapton stones for final polishing).

It is for sure softer and will wear quicker, but I guessed that would be the case, which is fine for what I need it for, which is gap filling in stone grades to speed things up.

It’s a decent stone, worth the money, but I wouldn’t buy a whole set of them, nor have these as my only sharpening resource.

I sharpen a lot of tools, frequently. If you’re someone who just wants to sharpen home/kitchen knives, I would choose this over your average B&Q type stones everyday of the week - it’s much better than those, but not it’s not a professional stone.

I was quite surprised how flat it was out of the box- needed very little flattening on both sides. That said, there was a small imperfection (a lump) in the coarse side which needed removing - no big deal, and you should always flatten the stone - even brand new ones.

I would also say the grading is reasonably accurate, the coarse side does feel around 2000grit. The 8000grit feels more like 5000/6000 - my King 6000grit is finer, and my Shapton stones of similar grade feel a country mile different. However, this does polish an edge quite well.

Sure beats

sharpest knives you will ever have, forget the knife sharpening machines this is the real deal

saw a video on youtube of a sushi chef using one of these to create razer blade sharp knives. Bought one and after a couple of practice runs I am now able to create the sharpest blades ever.

An absolute must for anyone who enjoys cooking, this basic block will deliver a different league of sharpness VS the standard knife sharpeners with the slot you insert the knife into.

Highly recommended buy make sure you use a youtube vid first to learn the correct technique.
