Product Description

A very happy bear hears the sounds of the city from his quiet home by the sea and decides to find out what city life is like. Buying the ticket and travelling on the train is all very exciting. And so is the city! But after a while the bear finds the city a little too noisy and a little too busy - and people are beginning to laugh at him. He feels very sad and alone, until four children find him and show him the way home, with much fun along the way. A perfect book for reading aloud, with just the right amount of excitement before a wonderfully calming ending - just right for reading before bedtime!

As 'bear hunt' fans we had to get this! The repetition is great and keeps young ones interested. Getting the CD with the book helps as Michael Rosen reads it out as it should be done! Adrian Reynolds' illustrations are great & colourful as usual. The question is - is it the same 'bear hunt' bear?!

What a lovely book, with cracking illustrations!

I bought this book for my 1 year old son, who loves bears and thoroughly enjoys Mr Rosen's 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' - I would say he likes this just as much, if not more and he's now over 2 years old!

It's bright and colourful, which is great for babies and toddlers and the repetition running throughout the book draws children in - especially the "Bananas, fish and shoes" page. It is lovely to hear Mr Rosen recite this book on the CD (great for car journeys!) and it is amazing how you, too, change the way you tell the book once you've heard it how he imagined it to be read - you will be surprised.

A wonderful purchase; this would be a perfect gift for any little person who loves bears!

This is a lovely story, we had boys in the house from 18 months to 3 years who wanted to read it again and again, there can't be much higher praise than that. The CD is also fantastic- hearing the story as Michael Rosen intended. We love the "dooby-doos!"

Storyline -
A bear who lives in a cave by the sea all lonely one day take a trip to the city. The city was very buy with cars, people and people. He visited the market, had a train ride, the park, the high street, sat on bench and then he met 4 children. The children saw he looked lost and took him back to the sea to play in the sea.

Early Years Teachers - This book proved to be an invaluable resource on my teaching placements. This is a great book with a good story line, part of a lovely collection. It is so versatile and can be enjoyed by many ages. It is really easy to engage with as there are so many possible themes in the story which can be explored to a suitable depth dependent on the children's ages.

Themes: Travel/transport; The busy city; By the sea; Bears; Feelings/ emotions; Shopping/ markets and At the park.

Activity ideas:
- Children could learn about different forms of transport
- Children can make their own train ticket
- Children can go on a train ride (either in real life or a role play)
- Children can make the bears cave out of junk modeling
- The classroom could have the bears cave in it e.g. the book corner
- Teacher can re-read the story and the children could say the repeated words instead of the teacher
- In PE the children could act out the busy street full of people and could then act out by the sea and in the cave
- Children could discuss how the bear feels in the town and in the cave
- Home corner could be the market and children could sell fruit
- Children could visit a local market
- Children could splash in a tub of water outside with wellington boots on to act out playing in the sea
- Children could go swimming and act out playing in the sea

Would recommend to any early years teacher or parent.

We are not English native speakers (and we are living in Spain), and I was interested in having the CD so that my son could listen to it, in native English. And he just LOVES the CD (and the book of course!), and knows parts of it by heart and repeats them when I read it to him copying the CD, best buy ever!!! It's a pity that the book with the CD is so hard to find.

Extremely durable, the bear in the cave is such a melodic book we all tap along to the rhythm when we read it out. My child has heard this story since he was a tiny baby, and he's not tired of it yet. First it was just great sounding, but now he's starting to understand the words and he loves to point to the things he recognises in the pictures. Have bought copies for friends!

Lovely story, lovely rhyme, lovely atmosphere. I've been very impressed with Michael Rosens attitude and explanations about increasing literacy in the very young. This back up his claims. It's a lovely book to share.
