Pros: comes with multiplayer head start kit which unlocks 15 different weapons, gadgets and vehicle upgrades, 5 Expansion packs - Back to Karkand, Close Quarters, Armored Kill, Aftermath and Endgame
Cons: EA/Origin required me to download/Install 22GB of game data even though I had the game discs.
What I want in FPS games are guns, bullets, grenades, walls, covers, fluid movement, real physics and gravity and vicious opponents. The rest for example, flying leaves, shadows,water ripples etc are secondary.
Oh yes even though this is a DVD version (2 disks) you will have to download approx. 20 GB for updates additional maps, weapons etc.
Phew.. But luckily the download speed is ok even for me where internet is quite slow. Now i will have to backup the updates so that i dont need to download them again if ever my windows crash. We have to be pro active in life.
The install from the disks (2x DVDS) installs the campaign. Then there is an essential 6Gb install (which includes the Back to Karkland expansion) and then further downloads for the three currently available expansions (Close Quarters, Armored Kill and Aftertermath). You do not need to download the last three to start playing the game online, however you will not have access to the maps in multiplayer until you do. The first download is essential to get the game playing. All-in-all about 18Gb worth of download. How long this takes (of course) will be down to you internet connection speed.
The graphics are immense. I have an Intel i5 and an AMD 7950 so I am able to achieve 'ultra' settings at a decent frame rate (online and offline modes). It is much clearer than the Xbox version (which you would expect) and the opportunity to play against 64 players in online multiplayer (even in Close Quarters matches) is great fun (Xbox is limited to 32).
You can use the Xbox 360 controller with this game (mine is the wired version), all you need to do is plug it into any free USB port on your computer (all the required drivers will be downloaded for it and the game will recognise it and you can use it straight away and all buttons are exactly the same as the console version. This is fine for the main campaign - but I don't recommend it for online multiplayer - there is no 'aim assist' as you find in the console versions and the Xbox controller is not as accurate as the keyboard/mouse combination and the masses who having been playing this on PC since its release are v.good! As much as it hurts me to say it - mastering the keyboard/mouse combination is the only way to be consistently successful for online multiplayer.
Minimum specification from the back of the box:
OS: Vista (will work on Windows 7 and 8)
CPU: 2 GHz Dual Core (Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7GHz)
RAM: At least 2Gb
Disk Drive: DVD Rom - required for installation (every one should have one of these!)
Hard Drive: At least 30Gb of free space
Video: Graphics Card (AMD); Direct X 10.1 compatible card with 512 MB RAM (ATI Radeon 3000, 4000, 5000 or 6000 series or ATI Radeon 3870 or higher performance) NVIDIA Direct X10.0 compatible with 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA Geforce 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 or 500 series with NVIDIA Geforce 88000 GT or higher performance)
Direct X: DirectX 10 compatable
INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse (and Xbox 360 controller too!)
One last note - you need to be online to activate the product. It will install Electronic Arts 'Origin' on your computer (a bit like 'Steam').
Hope that helps!
I really like the co-op play of the game where you act as as team but there are some tasks you are called upon to do on your own. The flying part is really good taking out the enemy jets, this is where I am up to at the mo' so this is not an in depth review as of yet. But I will come back here with updates to keep you informed as the game progresses.
I only had to agree to 3 T+C's so I think I have been lucky with no real problems installing as I have a high end PC.
Here is a run down of my installation;
5.56pm install disc 1
6.29 install disc 2
6.36 installation finished
8.04 update finished
8.07 download plug-in
8.10 launch game
8.13 ready to play
My specs are;
Intel Core i7 4 Core, 10MB Cache, 3.60GHz Processor
2TB Sata 6Gb/s (7200rpm) 32MB Cache Hard Drive
16GB Ram (4x4GB) 1600 MHz DDR3 Quad Channel
Nvidia 1.5GB GDDR5 Geforce GTX 660 Graphics Card.
With all settings on ultra the game runs like a dream, this is on a famous brand dedicated gaming machine.
Will keep this post updated soon.
