The battery is so very obviously a fake!! For starters, the box it came in says "made in China" even though it's supposed to be a genuine Sony and the battery itself says made in Japan???!!!! I'm not talking here about where the box is made (if maybe you think the "made in China" is for the box!). It says "Made in China" and then, the next line says "BPS2C" and the third and last line has the battery's serial no.!!! A closer look at the battery explained that; the thin cover that has the battery model, the "Sony" logo and the "Made in Japan" had obviously been peeled off before (one of it's corners hadn't been fully glued back in place!!) which totally explains why the other reviewers were saying it "looks" like a Sony and it "appears" to be genuine!!! It's probably just a cheap Chinese imitation with the label from an old genuine battery glued on (very carefully I should add; if it hadn't been for that peeled corner, I would have missed it myself!!!!)

When initially trying to fit the battery into my Vaio SZ laptop, it didn't seem to fit very smoothly into it's slot! You have to give it a good push (something you'll find mentioned in one of the previous reviews!!) which is definitely not the sign of a genuine battery; my original battery isn't anything like that!!! Anyway, I pushed the battery all the way till I got a click and the lock button snapped shut!To be honest though, I really didn't feel right at all having to force the battery in like that!!

I then switched on the PC, only to see it saying "on AC power" when I wanted to check the battery's life, even though I'd unplugged it from the mains!!?? This is a classic sign of a fake battery!! Sony has a power chip installed in each of its batteries which basically allows the laptop to recognize a genuine Sony battery.

Laptop Batteries of this sort are available from more than £120 down to around £25.

I bought this on on the basis of the "Original Sony Product" claim in the Technical Details section.
This battery seems to work fine in my Sony VGN-C1S notebook. It looks like a Sony product, the label says Sony and my notebook firmware and software are happy with it. I tested it with "Battery Eater" software and got a respectable two hours forty five minutes life out it (working very hard).

"Battery Eater" reported the following information from the battery I received:

Main Battery Info

Device Name Manufacture Sony Corp.
Serial #
Unique ID Sony Corp.
Chemistry LiOn
Temperature Termal Control Not Present
Designed Capacity 47520mWh
Full Charged Capacity 49890mWh
Designed Voltage 4294967.295V
Current Voltage 4294967.295V
Manufacture Date 0/0/0
Cycles Count 0
Cells count 255
Force charge support Not Supported
Force discharge support Not Supported

Note that:

1) Genuine Laptop Battery for Sony Vaio VGP-BPS2A
2) Genuine Sony Laptop Battery for Vaio VGP-BPS2A

are not the same. But "Original Sony Product" is a clear claim.

I was keen to purchase a Sony original replacement battery and a lot of the products I viewed on-line were not original, although much cheaper than this product. I installed it in my computer and was pleased to note it charged immediately and seems to be holding a charge. I did not want to risk installing a non-Sony product and risk damage to my top of the range Sony laptop. I was pleased with the delivery estimate and receipt of the product.

Apparently geneuine Sony battery which works wonders on my SZ270 (now about four years old). Increased battery life from c 40 mins to 2.5-3hrs (on the 'speed' setting). One note of caution: make sure the battery is firmly seated - it needed gentle pressure on the side with the lock button to make sure it slotted home. If you don't do this it says it doesn't recognise the battery. This happened on two similar laptops but in both cases was easily fixed.

This item was not a Sony Brand item, also was not the 5500mah Battery as ordered.
The delivered item was made by "Clearmax" and was inly rated at 4400mah.
What a waist of time, Amazon have offered a full refund as the correct item is not available from this seller.
Why advertise an item when you do not stock the item.
Although a refund will be given, Amazon has had the benefit of my payment for some 5 weeks, and im the one who has to get to the post office and return the item.
Better customer service would be to source the right item for me and deliver and collect the replacement correct item.
