Product Description

Duane Bradley's brother is very small, very twisted, very mad and he lives in a basket...until night comes! After a difficult birth, which their mother didn't survive, Duane was born with a monstrously deformed Siamese twin, Belial, attached to his side. Embittered by the death of his wife and unable to accept his hideous son, the boys' father ordered the twins to be surgically separated. Surviving the operation, but deeply resentful of his enforced removal from his brother's side, Belial plans to get even with his father and the doctors responsible. Duane, normal looking but sympathetic to his brother's plight, moves to New York carrying with him a large basket in which his grotesque twin hides. Together they seek out the surgeons responsible for their violent separation and Belial wreaks his gruesomely bloody revenge... Basket case has always been one of my favourite films. In fact I even created a website for it!

I really don't want to spoil the story for anyone who has yet to watch it and I'm sure anyone who has seen it doesn't need reminding what happens.

If you like your films high budget and riddled with CGI you probably aren't going to enjoy this film.

Somehow this film missed the Video Nasty list when first released, but that is probably because it was so far fetched and while gory has a element of fun to the story. Shot in and around the boroughs of New York (Manhattan/Queens/Brooklyn) on a miniscule budget by Frank Henenlotter the film has a wonderful grimy atmosphere throughout.

The Blu Ray Transfer itself is an improvement on the DVD and for a 16mm film is about as good as you can expect. The extras are limited to what we have seen before bar an introduction from Frank Henenlotter.

5 stars from a very happy Fan::-)

Frank Henenlotter's BASKET CASE is a truly disturbing masterpiece. It deals with a frustrated character Belial who is the deformed twin of Duane Bradley (Kevin Van Hwentenryck). The film itself is at times deeply emotional. As you feel sorry for Belial. The fact that he doesn't have much of a life. And also the fact that he wants to be loved, but can't. That does touch on some society issues. So as that as an example this movie has an intelligent plot.
Henenlotter's bizzare atmosphere and original scare tactics make this movie also. He is honest in these outragous scenes of sex and violence which fit the movies character. Although at times the gore is quite graphic and the effects are dated it still has this effect thar grips the viewer. Overall an excellent movie which has its own points to say on family and emotions.

Frank Henelotters cult classic and by far his best film. Duane Bradley is a likable student type kid who makes his first visit to sleazy New York City, except everywhere he goes he has a basket with him. And everyone wants to know what's in the basket? Residing there of course is his mutated brother and both are out for revenge on the doctors who separted them.

OK so it's over the top and bizarre in nature but the movie works for what it is. Sleazy, gorey and a well rounded told movie- we even have some character developement and a nice backstory.

Those of you that yearn for the old 'deuce' on 42nd street with the pimps and grindhouse cinemas will not be disappointed by this one- some wonderful historical footage. Basket Case would yield another 2 sequels- but this original movie stands head and shoulders above and could quite rightly be in a horror top 10 list of the 1980s.

Basketcase is everything a low budget 80's horror movie should. Gross, darkly funny and over the top. Really it shouldnt work at all but it is delivered with a tongue firmly in cheek and the horror and funny elements mesh together nicely.

A man carrying a wicker basket checks into a grubby hotel for a few nights. Suspicions are raised immediatley with his over protective attitude towards his basket. The collection of eccentric neighbours each have their own views on who this kid is but no one could be prepared for the truth!

The gore is fairly minimal and the monster is a bizarre creation of puppetry and stop motion. The acting is so far beyond wooden that if the actors stand still for too long they would be infested with wood mites!

Gloriously entertaining if you like your b-movie horrors low brow.

Theres a really grimy feel to this film. Cast members wander around the sets sometimes like they do not know if they are meant to be there.
Belial, the Basket Case, is a grunting piece of plasticine who mauls people.
The film is a masterpiece because the acting is great and the script makes you care for this lump of plasticine.
I want to spend a night at the Hotel Broslin, where the film is set.

The film begins with a chilling opening scene leaving you feeling scared and horrified.....During the film you feel a certain empathy with the main character duane who tops the film with some first class acting skills which adds to the hilarity during certain scenes. Gory, bloody and an unhappy ending (maybe)....a thoroughly entertaining 90 minutes from start to end!

I watched this for the first time in a long time the other day and found it just As Disturbing as it was back in the day.Its low budget works for it creating a Grimy,Gritty side to the City with its Strip Clubs and Adult Film Houses. Its Grindhouseast its best.

Image has put out some really bad blu rays. That have lines and scratches on them even, "time bandits' which is a A list movie looks really bad. This was a very small budget movie shot for vhs release back in the 80's. It used cheap film and was in full screen format. The format is preserved here and the film has been cleaned up. THis looks outstanding, and this how ALL IMAGE BLU RAYS should be done. Remastered and cleaned up, with no print damage. There are a few extras on this one too that add to the experience. No obviously non horror fans would trash this movie with it's quick cutaways and minimum budget. But we lovers of low budget horror and this is not a b movie , it's lower budgeted than that: dig this kind of cheaply made horror flick. The effects are everything from stopmotion figures , (they take pictures of a model frame by frame) to very effective puppet work ala many movies of that era. WHich often still looks better than some of todays cgi. See fright night for that. The first one is much better because of it's manual effects and far better story actually too. The acting is decent for firsttimers and the lead actor did a good job actually. Basketcase is good very low budget horror film, it suceeded in being a twisted movie when other higher budget movies like xtro did only a so so job. So for fans of this type of movie , this is a five star blu ray. IMAGE KEEP CLEANING UP YOUR MOVIES!.
