Just has a more manageable size now. I have used the first edition and this was a welcome addition to my collection. Neatly compact and plenty of spaces for making one's own notes for a quick reciew or to beef out any gaps in te book! Recommended!!

This book, although aimed at qualified doctors, is a must-have for any undergraduate medical student. It summarises (with all the important details) everything I've covered so far. I only wish I knew about this book at the start of my course as it would've saved many hours sifting through poorly written lecture notes or large recommended texts that either go into too little or too much detail. Simply put, it's all your lectures and notes in one compact volume that will be your best friend at exam time!

Very concise. Good for refreshing topics. However..... there are plenty of errors within the book. The respiratory section in particular confuses terminology and incorrectly explains the physiology, particularly in regard to surfactant. Use this book as a quick refresh guide. Use a proper physiology text book if you really have forgotten a lot!

the truth is if you're working you'll probably fall asleep reading a dry text like this and it's easier to get an online mcq subscription for the MRCS part A. Probably handier for part B but again that's if you can get through it without falling asleep in a few pages.

I bought this book in order to guide my revision for the MRCS. It contains a lot of facts which aren't always substantiated with illustrations so this is not a replacement for more comprehensive texts. I will update this review after the exams in January 2015.

Although not written with a medical student audience in mind, this book was still useful to me as a clinical medical student. It is conveniently ordered into sections on anatomy, physiology and pathology. Each section additionally has a few OSCE scenarios. I found the layout of the book to be very logical and easy to follow and found that I was able to flick through quickly to locate particular sections. The diagrams were also very useful though my only criticism would be that they are all black and white. This is a matter a preference, but personally, I enjoy colour diagrams. Indeed, I think that the chapter sections would be better demarcated through the use of a colour code system throughout the book as a whole. Nevertheless, I still found it to be a valuable resource. Given that it aims to cover `Basic Science', I found it to be at the right level to use as a revision aid, particularly when covering a specific body system before a hospital attachment. It was definitely much quicker to revise from this book as opposed to consulting the individual texts that I used when I actually learnt the information for the first time. I also liked the `Clinical Points' sections in the anatomy chapters as these were the areas that I wanted to ensure I revised before heading back to the wards. Having recently completed a surgical attachment, I was pleased to find that the book contains the information that I was commonly questioned on by the surgical team in teaching sessions.

Overall, I think this book is definitely a useful revision aid for use on surgical placements.
