Whilst the Braider's Bible is chock-full of braids and cords, this one explains how you can make fabrics using four basic techniques, and has a good section on finishing off. I found it really inspiring. OK, it's old, but there are still a few copies around - I checked it out at my local library and was so impressed I ordered a copy thro' Amazon.

This is a hybrid based on many ancient skills and adapted to today’s (1973) needs. There are a few intermediate diagrams and a lot of monochrome photos of finished products. The book seems to me more of an inspiration than a practical how-to.
Table of contents:
Working Arrangements, Materials and Tools
How to Make and How to Start
The Peruvian Flat Braid
Edge-to-Edge Weaving
Center-Edge Weaving- The Osage Indian Braid
The Chinese Braid
Mexican Double Weaving
Square and Round Braids
Widening, Narrowing, and Sharpening
Finishing Techniques

This is the second time I've bought this book. Don't loan it out without making a BIG note about who you gave it to.
