Deep underground beneath Perfect Pets, where children can buy genetically engineered "perfect" creatures, there is a secret lab. About the Author

ERIC FAN is an artist and writer who lives in Toronto, Canada. Born in Hawaii and raised in Toronto, he attended the Ontario College of Art and Design, where he studied illustration, sculpture and f ilm. He has a passion for vintage bikes, clockwork contraptions and impossible dreams. His children's books include The Night Gardener, The Antlered Ship and Ocean Meets Sky. TERRY FAN received his formal art training at Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada. His work is a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques, using ink or graphite mixed with digital. He spends his days (and nights) creating magical paintings, portraits and prints. His children's books include The Night Gardener, The Antlered Ship and Ocean Meets Sky. Born in Illinois, he now lives in Toronto. I first became aware of the Fan brothers through their tee shirt illustrations ten years ago, and I've been a fan (no pun intended) of their work since then. This is the third book of theirs I've bought and is my favourite.
Without spoiling the story, it's a story about celebrating our differences, sticking together and never giving up. Three things which are valuable life lessons for children and adults alike. The illustrations are sublime, imaginative and detailed.

It would enrich any book shelf and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone.

An utterly superb book! My 6yo loved it and it’s a perfect picture book to use in Guided Reading in lower KS2, good for inference and deduction etc as there is a lot left unsaid. I absolutely love Shaun Tan and this was my first book from the Fan Brothers. Now I’m seeking out more of their work. Cannot recommend it height enough!

Books by The Fan Brothers are always beautifully illustrated with a lovely story and The Barnabus Project is no exception. I adore the illustrations which are just entrancing and the meaning of the story about being yourself is put across in the perfect way.

Barnabus is such an adorable character, and I love that although he's a "failed project" he's happy with being himself and wouldn't want to change. I also think that the message about not judging others comes across really well in this story.

I'd highly recommend The Barnabus Project for fans of stunning artwork and for people looking for a picture book with a really heartfelt message that's very important.

What a breath of fresh air. This picture book is nothing less than exquisite. Beautiful in depth illustrations and carefully chosen words which have deep meaning on many different levels.
This would be a brilliant book to use with older children to celebrate and embrace our differences which will lead so some very in depth and meaningful conversations.
