Don't bother with this for a 3 year old. Despite saying suitable for 3-12yrs on the box, my 3 year old managed to trash it within 2 days just from normal playing. The hair was completed frizzed (think candy floss) and is beyond salvation (and believe me I've tried conditioner, oil and anything else that might do the trick). The accessories are cheap, plastic and fiddly. The jewels lose their stick very quick, the hairclips are too small for her to open, let alone close and the colour change hair tong needs too much effort and parental input to work effectively (the hot water cools too quickly and fridge cooled water is not cold enough). She loved it for the 2 days she could use it, but that's about it.

Father Christmas bought this toy for my three year old. We are very disappointed. She can not play with it independently as it is far too fiddly. The special hair styler which is meant to change Pegasus’s hair colour requires very cold water – but must not be put in the fridge. Getting water the exact temperature and keeping it at that temperature for any length of time is very difficult indeed. The same applies to Pegasus’s eyeshadow which requires warm and cold water to make it come and go. The required temperatures are very difficult to maintain and require constant adult input. The sticky jewels for the face lose their stick after a couple of changes and the lip gloss doesn’t show up very well in my opinion. The hair bobbles and crowns are fine, however the clips are too tricky for my daughter’s fingers – and she is quite nimble for a three year old! Normal hair clips were much more successful for us. Perhaps it would be more suited to an older child.

I saw this product on the tv, and decided that I would purchase this for my young niece. My neice has been literally begging me for this product as Mattel are really promoting Barbie Magic of Pegasus on the television at the moment. This is a clever twist on the old fashion styling head which has been a popular toy for years, however the use of the Pegasus horse's head is very clever and my neice just adored this. All girls love horse play and fantasy fairytales. The combination of all these factors really does the trick and forms a unique toy with loads of play value. My neice hasn't put this toy down and plays with it as she watches the Magic of Pegasus DVD. Highly recommended.

HASH(0x9648cc00) out of 5 stars She Loves It, It's Great Fun To Her! That's What Matters! 14 Sept. 2005
By S. Tebbe - Published on Amazon.com
I do not understand all of the complaints with this toy. I really didn't have any problems with it. My 4 year old daughter saved up for a couple months to get the "horse head". After reading the reviews, I was concerned she was wasting her money, and would be dissapointed. She absolutely loves it though. We simply used a little ice pack to change the hair color (it's faster than filling the iron), and it worked fine...and the color held for quite a long while. My little girl enjoys using the iron, just as a hair straightener. It came with a number of pretty ponytail holders, and small clips (also jewels, crowns, a comb...and lip gloss). I showed her how the clips worked, and she now works them just fine. I did buy her a couple extra packs of hair clips to add in, but what styling head couldn't use more accessories? It's the same with any of them. This one's charm, seems to be that it's a horse, rather than simply another doll head. My little girl has had a ball fixing the hair, and making up stories while she does it. As a Mom, I like that it has a sturdy base, and doesn't fall over on her when she tries to put the decorations in the hair. If this is what your little girl wants, It should make her happy. It made my little girl happy. Isn't that the whole point?

HASH(0x95314714) out of 5 stars I wouldn't buy this 22 Sept. 2005
By Steven Pockat - Published on Amazon.com
My daughter saved her money up to get this since she 1st saw it a few months back. She is 6yrs. The hair barely changes colors and it takes extremely cold water to do it (we put an ice cube in ours). It also takes a long time to get it to change which is frustrating for her. I wouldn't recommend it. It isn't worth its price.

HASH(0x94f83450) out of 5 stars Very disappointing 28 Aug. 2005
By Jen H. - Published on Amazon.com
My 5-year old daughter begged us for this toy. We finally bought it for her only to find out it was a huge disapointment, to all of us.

This toy is an example of fabulous advertising applied to a low quality yet rather expensive product. The jewel decorations can be applied only once, only to later fall off. The hair color change requires ultra cold water, and more effort than it's worth. And there's no chance of the crown to fit any child's head.

I'm sure the steep price of the toy takes into consideration the vast number that will be returned.

HASH(0x94e5578c) out of 5 stars Very overpriced, but your child will enjoy it 4 Oct. 2005
By Long Island Mom - Published on Amazon.com
My 7 year old daughter saved her money to purchase this. I would never have paid $30.00 for it after reading the other reviews, which are all accurate, but she desperately wanted it. The hair color comes in pink and we used icecubes to change it to purple, the "curling iron" does not work. Icewater works for the eyeshadow. I'm sure this will be drastically reduced as time goes by, wait and get it for $20.00 or less.

HASH(0x95570b88) out of 5 stars Ok toy, too expensive 29 Sept. 2005
By C.S. - Published on Amazon.com
My daughter used her gift card for this. I was surprised it was $30 and not closer to $20. I fondly remember my Barbie head you could put makeup on when I was little so got this for her.

VERY disappointing how the mane and eyeshadow don't really change color. I wouldn't let my daughter put on the gloss on her as it smells terrible. The jewels lose their stickiness all too quick. I will have to get more to myself so she can play with it more. The crown is unwearable as it is so tiny and as she says "hurts my head". I did find that if you put your child's hair in a bun on top first then it will go around it fine.

Overall, I will see if she wants to get something else and leave it up to her if we return it. I would but she IS enjoying playing with it.
