I received this within two days. The features on this handheld are simply amazing for the money. Yaesu, Kenwood and all the radio manufacturers should be very worried. If you are in the market for a 2m/70cm handheld and are not concerned that it hasn't got the usual badge on the front get one of these you will not be dissapointed. Trust me.
I couldn't resist trying this one at the price and am glad I did. The receiver is a big improvement on Baofeng uv5r with no annoying spurious squelch openings. Measured power on transmit on 144 mhz was 5.8 watts and transmit audio is much better than the uv5r which is by no means poor. Menu settings are more or less identicle to uv5r and so is key lay-out so no learning curve. Listen to that voice tempting you to get one - you'll be glad you did!
I have been a Ham since 2007 but have been using radio since the 70s and now have at least 8 . Base,Mobile and 4 handhelds. A ICOM IC-706 MK11G,Yaesu HF Base Rig, Kenwood TH-K20E, Yaesu FT60 and a couple of Baofengs. ok the baofengs are not quite up to the level of the others but for the money asked they are a no brainer. Between the baofengs I find the gt3 has a much cleaner audio on both transmit and receive, the SQL is also much tighter, but unless you want to spend days tapping keys??? good idea is to program it using a computer OR get a friend to do it for you.Quite easy to program using the keys BUT you WILL have some reading to do, best to use the internet as it is easy to pick up all the info you need.I have only had it a couple of days now but already have had a few people checking it out as it looks so neat. So for the money I don't think that you will get a better buy and I have spent £1000s on radios,Plus it even has a nice little FM broadcast built in. So if you want to get into Amateur Radio or just want to have a listen then get one of these.
as i have just got my ham foundation licence, and could not afford the big named radios,i purchased one of these, great little radio cannot fault it.ideal for 2m/70cm crystal clear audio and transmit, had some good reports from radio hams who have been on the air for years, and they are very fussy.programming software is the same as the ub-5r,so my recomendation is buy one you will not be dissapointed.alan M6RFO
