- The two-player word race game that can be played anytime, any place in a matter of minutes
- Compact enough to enjoy on an aeroplane tray-table, you can play ZIP IT anywhere!
- Be the first to Zip to ten – then race all over again
How to Play
Each player takes 12 cubes then takes a zipper colour (green or yellow) to keep score – move the zipper along each time you score a point.
To start the game any player calls out GO! Players simultaneously start to form their own interconnecting word grids using any side of their cubes.
Words must read horizontally or vertically, left to right or top to bottom to form one unified word grid. Grids can be rearranged at any time.
Proper nouns and abbreviations are not allowed and if a player’s grid includes misspelled or a non-existent word that player receives no points for the round and the opponent gains one point.
The first player to complete a word grid with no remaining cubes calls ZIP! and moves their pouch zipper one point.
At the end of each round, mix all cubes and redistribute 12 cubes to each player, the first player to win ten rounds and reach the star on the scoring track wins.

More ways to play
Why not try a different variation of the game? Rhyming Zip-It – bonus points for every pair of rhyming words; Looong word Zip-It – seven letter words win one bonus point, eight letters wins two bonus points and so on; Palindrome Zip-It – two extra bonus points for using words that read exactly the same backwards as forwards and one bonus point for semi-palindrome – words that make a new word when read backwards. Tweak the rules to suit your players, i.e. adults might have to play words of four letters and children are allowed to use fewer words.
Portable travel game
Fast paced rounds and small space play make Zip It the ultimate travel game. The unique travel pouch has scoring zippers making it easy to record your points and eliminate the use of pen and paper.

It's enjoyable, definitely - but it's pitched very much as a travel game and even in that capacity I don't think I'd recommend it over a decent travel Scrabble kit. This is newer, certainly - and the dice rolling is an enjoyable mechanic - but it attempts to work in the same design space as Scrabble and my view is that Scrabble has already pretty much perfected it.
That said, Zip-It is quicker than Scrabble, doesn't take as much time to finish, has less down-time, and can be scaled easily to your available time. The cost of that is in design elegance and depth of play. Zip-It certainly isn't a bad game though, and you wouldn't look upon its purchase as a mistake. For short, intense bursts of random fun, it's hard to beat.
Basically the pack contains 24 dice which have a variety of letters on and it is a race to create a word grid containing half the dice. The first to win gets a point. Scoring is tracked using the zips on the side which is novel and gets over the need to pind a pad and pen.
We found the basic game okay but enjoyed it more when we added in the bonus point scoring for long words and rhyming.
My only criticism is that we are unlikely to use it as a travel game on public transport because the game is quite heavy. Whilst this gives the dice a better feel of quality in play I would not want to lug these around!
It does get a little repetitive, and wont pass away a long lazy Sunday afternoon. But a great way of keeping kids/adults quiet for 15-20 mins.
One of the best things about Zip-It is that it takes so little space – about 160 x 80 x 15mm. It comes in an attractive, well-made bag, too, so is great for travel. Mind you, for its size, it’s quite heavy, at 260-270 grams. The bag doubles as a score-sheet, with the zips being positioned against scores – very clever.
This is a nicely-presented, quality product, so would make a great gift. It certainly deserves a strong recommendation, especially for travel, although we prefer Boggle at home, even if only because more than two can play.
This is a highly portable game that can occupy you for hours and stretch your thinking and vocabulary. A great and novel change to an already excellent game. This will get a lot of play!
I love Bananagrams and did think, if it's not broken... Bananagrams Game don't try to fix it.
BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL?
It's just different. It does give it a new angle, and the game play is a little different and CAN be more fun.
SO WHAT'S DIFFERENT WITH THIS VERSION?
Zip it is a word game which is quite different.
There are 24 cubes and 144 letters inscribed on the 24 cubes so you can easily twist a cube to find any letter. For me it's more efficient than Bananagrams because you can simply twist the cube around to find the letter you need to make the words.
In Bananagrams you have to "dump" the tiles you can't use. With Zip It as there are just twelve cubes you can create loads of words.
It's a game you can play on your own or a two player too.
It's good for reading, spelling and language. It's like a quick paced scrabble.
I like this version as it does add a fun element, but it can also be a bit annoying depending on who you play with.
Hope this helps.
