HASH(0x907c0bc4) out of 5 stars Still a great diaper for daytime use, but not for extended wear or heavy wetters 16 Oct. 2013

I have been a devoted user of Bambo's diapers ever since I discovered them ~6 months ago. I loved them for all the reasons everyone else did - absolute top performance (super absorbent, dry to the touch inside, no rash ever), industry leading in terms of lack of chemicals and scent (I personally can't stand the Pampers scent, especially once wet), etc. When the new diapers came out a month or so ago, I awaited my first trial pack with trepidation - especially after reading all the negative reviews.

So here are the facts on what has changed:
* The new diapers are thinner and lighter (1 oz vs 1.4oz in size 4). Bambo claims they improved the internal absorbent material and redistributed it within the diaper, enabling them to create a thinner diaper with no decrease in performance.
* They are also slightly smaller in size, though the manufacturer claims they are still generously sized vs competitor brands. The size 4s still fit my 31", 25 lb 21-mo-old just fine, with plenty of room to grow, but if your baby is at the upper end of the weight range, you may need to size up.
* The manufacturer reports that their manufacturing process is now more eco-friendly, with less waste produced, etc.
* The price went up temporarily (hence MOST of the negative reviews for this new product), but now it's right back where it was previously, at $0.33-0.34/diaper with S&S.

I think most of the negative reviews here are kneejerk reactions to the fact that the product changed (nobody likes change I guess, nor did Bambo communicate the benefits/reasons particularly well), and also due to the price hike (which is now no longer a relevant consideration).

However, a number of the reviews also cite lower absorbency, and/or some drooping/gaping around the legs, resulting in leaks. At first (for the first few weeks after we started using the new diapers), I did not notice any appreciable difference in performance. We change frequently during the day (after one or max two wets), so I didn't notice any issues. However, after having used these diapers for several months now, I have concluded that the absorbency is in fact not what is used to be. These new diapers are often wet to the touch inside, and there have been one or two nights when my son peed through his diaper, soaking through to his clothing and sleep sack. I just found an old unused Bambo in the same size, and tested it out overnight, and it did not have the same issue (was dry to the touch in the morning), so there has definitely been a change in performance.

I still think these are a great daytime diaper - our favorite out of all the ones we've tried (Pampers, Earths Best, Naty, 7th Generation) for LIGHT DAYTIME use, however I cannot recommend them for extended daytime or nighttime use, especially for heavy wetters or babies still feeding at night. If you often leave diapers on for multiple hours during the day, this is probably not the right diaper for you. I'm pretty bummed about this as I don't know of another more absorbent alternative for us that will not have that stinky chemical smell. If I find something good I will update this review. Please do also share if you have a suggestion for me!

One more tiny PS - the Bambos have a wetness indicator, but it really needs improvement. It consists of blue letters written down the length of the diaper that are supposed to "blur" or "smear" when wet, but in my opinion it's hardly noticeable. If this is an important feature to you, this might not be the right diaper for you.

UPDATE 1/14:

We sized up to 4+ (even though my son is only 26 lbs, well within the size 4 range) and that seems to have taken care of the leakage problem. His diapers are still slightly wet to the touch on the inside in the morning (after ~11 hours overnight), but I haven't noticed any problems with rash, so we are continuing to use them. So, if your baby is leaking through, consider sizing up. Though this might not be good enough for babies with sensitive skin who need a product that really locks away all moisture.

UPDATE 4/14:

I contacted the manufacturer via their Facebook page to ask if they are planning to address the complaints about decreased performance in the new version of their diapers. Below was their response. So - even if you conclude that Bambo is not the right choice for your family right now - perhaps consider checking back later in the year to see if they've rectified the problem!

"We are concerned with your fears about the line and are doing what we can. Overall we are very pleased with the changes but agree that things are not perfect. Expect a few improvements in the coming months. Thank you for your understanding....."

UPDATE 3/15:

Our very small just-turned-3yo (30 lbs) is now daytime potty trained, but is still in size 5 Bambos overnight. Now that he only wets his diaper once, max twice during the night (and he is occasionally totally dry), these work great for us and so I'm thrilled we're still able to use them (since they are less toxic etc.). I'm not sure if Bambo ever ended up changing the design or not, but we have no issues now. I am now pregnant and plan on buying these again for our second child -- will update if and when we start running into leak issues again :)

All the best in your search for the perfect diaper for your family :)

HASH(0x90d32570) out of 5 stars Just as happy with the "New and Improved" diaper! 8 April 2014

When I got an email from Amazon at the end of December saying my Bambo Subscribe and Save shipment was cancelled I was confused, so I did some investigating and found out that Bambo diapers were being discontinued. At the time, I thought they were gone for good and I had a less than mild panic attack because while expensive, these diapers were GOLD. I paid the hefty pricetag because they were environmentally friendly, made with natural/safe materials, and they did not leak...EVER. After a period of mourning my beloved diapers, I soon switched to what I found was the next best thing, Earth's Best diapers. I had originally found Bambo through Baby Gear Lab, who rated diapers on different criteria and after Bambo, Earth's Best was the next best thing (http://www.babygearlab.com/Disposable-Diaper-Reviews/BAMBO-Nature). First, let me say, I really like the Earth's Best diapers. They aren't as soft and plush as Bambo, but they do wear well. We also used them for overnight, but we have experienced a few minor leaks. The Earth's Best are really full in the morning, even if they don't leak, where as the Bambo didn't feel as heavy and full in the morning and they would never leak. During the day though, the Earth's Best are perfectly fine and they have never leaked. Because of this, I feel the Bambo really isn't a neccessity during the day...and not to mention the Earth's Best are much more affordable, especially if you do Subscribe and Save through Amazon. Okay...for those of you wanting to know the difference between the old and new Bambo diapers...I think when a product you use changes, you automatically freak out. Everyone seemed to be doing this and so did I. I really didn't even think about giving the new Bambo diaper a chance at first, but then decided I might as well see how they work. When I got my shipment in the one big change I noticed was that they were much thinner, but I also realized how much softer they were than the Earth's Best diapers. When I put them on my son that night, I also realized that they just feel and fit much nicer than the Earth's Best. But, other than being thinner, I really didn't notice any significant changes to the new version...no weird smell or feel like some people had mentioned. After the first night in the Bambo, it was clear that they hold up MUCH better at night and I'm sure are more comfortable for my 15 month old son. The bottom-line for me is while I love the Bambo diaper (new and old), I just can't justify the cost for during the day when the Earth's Best does a great job for a lot less. At night, the Bambo does a much better job, so I will continue to use it as a night diaper. I did sign up for Subscribe and Save for the Bambo which gives me (I believe) 180 diapers, and I have it shipped out every 6 months. So, for around $75 I get 180 nights of diapers. Final verdict, Bambo's new diaper is JUST as good as it was before and if you want to shell out the money, it would be a superior diaper for day/night...but, if you want to save a bit and still have an environmentally friendly and natural diaper that holds up really well for your babe, try Earth's Best for during the day and splurge a bit for Bambo as a night time diaper.

Size: Size 3 Midi nappies Verified Purchase
This has been the best diaper that we tried so far. It's well made diaper with high quality material. We realized the difference when we opened the package and touched the soft diaper.
The diaper doesn't give your baby a rash.
There is no chemical odor like in pampers.
No bead or newspaper like seventh generation diaper.
No scratch on belly like earths best
No rash like huggies nature
It's really natural and is the best diaper that we purchased so far,
No leakage at night .

HASH(0x906fa078) out of 5 stars Excellent Diapers 8 April 2013
By Roxy - Published on Amazon.com
I cannot begin to tell you what wonders these diapers will do for your baby. Although it is pricier compared to other leading brands- Huggies Natural, Seventh Generation, Earth's Best, Nature Babycare, etc. These are arguably the best diapers in the market.

Diapers are chlorine-free and certified free from dangerous chemicals, allergens, substances, and compounds that are harmful to the environment and health.

Stats: 80% biodegradable and 99% compostable!

Less diaper changes thanks to super absorbent core and super effective leakage barriers. My daughter is currently 3 1/2 mo. and goes through approx. 8 diapers a day. It literally holds up
to 5+ hrs depending on the number of feedings and other factors. I don't have to worry about any "blow outs" or heavy wet diapers in the middle of the night.

Flexible side panels with stretch and easy to adjust hook and loop fasteners that can be opened and closed to allow comfort and movement throughout the day.

No elastic on the waistband in addition to a breathable back sheet and material that is soft on contact with the baby's skin. Diapers are designed to prevent skin irritation and rash.

Diapers also have a wet indicator so you know precisely when to change it. The light blue writing on the surface of the back sheet is a wet indicator that lets you know to change when
writing run, blur or smear.

Lastly, the diapers run bigger due to increased length and width than other competitive brands. This is great for growing babies who need extra room and width.

Diapers are imported from Denmark that is only available to a handful of online sites for purchase- Amazon, KCK Industries Bambo-Nature.com, Ebay, Wayfair, and Walmart. This makes it super inconvenient for working parents. Buy in bulk to prevent from running out of diapers.

European sizes can be misleading so make sure to double check and order the correct size to fit your baby.
Sz. 1 Newborn- fits from birth to 9lbs.
Sz. 2 Mini- fits from 6-13 lbs (per label). I would say after 9lbs. stick with this size. It should fit your baby a little over 13lbs. It should fit up to 4 months or more depending on the length and weight of the baby.
Sz. 3 Midi- fits from 11-22 lbs (per label). After 13 lbs, this would be the next size up. My daughter has not reached this point yet since she is about to turn 4 months in 2 wks. I would say mini will last her until the end of the month when she is about to turn 5 mo. This size should last up to 9 mo. or more.
Sz. 4 Maxi- 18-40 lbs (per label). After 22 lbs., which is anywhere from a 1 yr old and up. This should hopefully be the last size that should last for awhile especially for toddlers that are going through potty training.
Sz. 5 Maxi Plus- 26-48lbs. Not sure if this is for taller toddlers or toddlers who require extended potty training since their last size up is Junior from 33-49 lbs.

Overall, $$ cost factor is more than other leading brands. These special brand of diapers will most likely never go sale since it is only available online. And if it is priced a bit lower, normally at 10% on bambo-nature.com, it is as if you are buying without the tax. Another bummer is if the diapers are not ordered in bulk, minimum on overall purchase, it is expensive with the shipping cost.

However, despite a few minor inconveniences, Bambo diapers is still a great product! I am very pleased with the quality of these diapers. And, I'm sure most parents will love using Bambo after their first purchase.

HASH(0x90b8f27c) out of 5 stars The best balance of the green diapers I've tried 21 Oct. 2014
By Michael B. - Published on Amazon.com

I know there have been many comments regarding the change in the quality - the previous ones must've been fantastic as I'm quite happy with the performance of the current version. My only disappointment is I saw previous mention to an indicator on these, and perhaps that was also removed - I hardly think the light blue word "MIDI" printed in the location of a Pampers indicator qualifies - especially since it doesn't really change color when wet.

These diapers are slightly longer than the equivalent Pampers, Honest or Nurtured by Nature, which I like as I get just a little more coverage up the back on those blowouts. I've been very pleased with the absorbency, and am appreciative that they don't mask the smell of the urine with so many perfumes like Pampers does. I actually don't miss the indicator as much for this reason, since it allows a quick "smell check" to know if they need changing, without having to dig through the layers of clothing to visually check an indicator. On the other hand, my better half prefers a visual indicator, so these are not our only diaper.

One additional absorbency note: I believe these work about as well as the "12 hour" Pampers Baby Dry for overnight use. Our little one tends to sleep through the night with either Baby Dry or Bambo, but wakes if using regular Swaddlers.

All in all, I do like using a more natural diaper even with the additional cost, and have found these to be the best among the "green" diapers I've tried (Honest [equivalent but pricey!], Nurture by Nature [okay, but not as soft], Earth's Best [not worth it] in descending order of satisfaction).
