#1 When you tighten either/both of the large head locking screws, the camera position moves. This is not unusual in a cheap ball head unit.
#2 Each of the 4 locking screws has a rubber band (like the bands fitted to toy truck wheels) to give you finger grip. Unfortunately the smallest of the three slips on the adjusting screw when you are trying to tighten it. Maybe some suitable adhesive would fix this.
#3 The camera mounting plate is not a close contact fit with its interlocking base. You can actually see this (i.e. daylight between these 2 parts) in the first of the 5 pictures at the top of the page. Instead of the mount sliding on its base, face-to-face, it rides on the angled side grooves. The designer has done this so that 2 cheese-head screws can be used as part of the safety mechanism, so the camera does not accidentally slide out of its mount. But this means that there is not enough friction to stop an SLR + large lens from sliding in the mount if/when you angle the camera either up to the sky or down to the ground. (i.e. the camera does not drop off the tripod mount, but it drops/slides about 6-7mm, and is never really tight).
I have never seen a tripod head like this. Creating a snug fit between camera mount and its base is usually the easy bit in a head design, but you normally need some kind of spring loaded pin as a safety mechanism to stop the camera accidentally sliding out. Its difficult to see how the safety feature on this mount could ever work with rigidly mounted screws running in slots, and still allow you to adequately secure your camera so it doesn't move.
This tripod head feels even better, and is 2 pounds cheaper!
-Solid construction, quality materials, quality building - feel safe putting my camera on here
-Can support fairly heavy rigs, so no need to worry about weight load
-Has a screw with a metal flap, like some manfrotto quick release heads I have seen - meaning you do not need a screwdriver to attatch the camera to the head (great for people who like to travel light)
-Small price, for such money you'd be lucky to get anything near such quality in most other heads
-No spirit bubble! Or rather there is one, but on one of the side knobs - meaning it is only of use when shooting vertically, which for me means... never! Some may find this a real issue, I prefer to shoot most of the time by eye, although the bubble can still be useful at times (though not critical)
-Comes only with one quick release plate, and obtaining others is tricky - my other Kaavie KS-0 ballhead's release plate is slightly different size and shape it turns out, so although they look practically the same the plates do not work on different ballheads, thus ordering plates that work together from online is problimatic... the price of buying cheaper heads
Overall, I like it - a great addition to my equipment, this head now adorns the tip of my expensive manfrotto monopod - it is that good!
Night and day difference - easy to use, more stable and ridged, any angle quickly - just love them.
Pan heads have a use for filming, panoramas, and the like - but for all else ballheads are the business !
This Ballhead is one of the best I have used, and I have used it a lot. The quick release plate is smooth and precise and works a treat.
The ballhead and locks work as they should and all lock up well, even when using my Nikon D7100 battery grip and 55-300 lens mounted, which altogether is some weight !
At £20 quid this is a must and I would recommend you get one, even as a spare.
ps. I use a Manfrotto 190 old version tripod and it fits fine.
It feels nicely made, and the knobs all do what they should, with the drag knob being a nice addition. All in all a great buy for under £20, where a Manfrotto equivalent would likely be close to £80.
Oh and the bit in the description which is creatively worded as "the Velbon's tripod need an extra part to fit the tripod amount" means it has a 3/8 inch thread so if your tripod or whatever has a 1/4 inch mount then you need to buy a converter for a couple of quid, no problem.
I'm really impressed with this ball head as it has resistance adjustment as well as the ball lock, and it seems solidly built. I've not had a lot of chance to use it yet but as it will only get occasional use anyway I think it fits the bill perfectly. It certainly is good value for money as it's one of the cheapest ball heads on the market.
If you're unsure whether or not you'll get on with a ball head I'd definitely give this a try.
