Always the grizzled sidekick and never the hero, Lefty (Bill Pullman: Lost Highway, The Sinner ) is considered an unreliable loser but is pushed into the limelight when his best friend and longtime ranch partner (Peter Fonda: Easy Rider) is brutally murdered. Lefty strikes out to find the killers and avenge his friend's gruesome death, but when he returns home with the names of Johnson's killers, he finds that he is being accused of his friend's murder... His desire to clear his name and seek revenge places him at odds with vested interests, hired guns, corrupt officials and his own abundant failings as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime. THE BALLAD OF LEFTY BROWN s ensemble cast also includes Kathy Baker (Edward Scissorhands), Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest, The Thin Red Line) and Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy). The film is not only a thrilling, action-packed western but also a film about loyalty, friendship, and the relentless pursuit of justice, and lauded as one of Bill Pullmans best performances in years.

No, the truth is that this film is really pretty poor. At best the acting is barely adequate, and the storyline is weak, poorly thought out and is inadequately envisaged by the director, which is not helped by, so so editing; though one suspects that the editor probably had little to work with.
Bill Pullman, never a great actor, is totally miscast in the very sketchily drawn main character, and this may be the most significant failure of the film.
Peter Fonda gives by far the best performance of the whole cast but unfortunately his is a very brief bit part.
If you appreciate a good western, then do not bother to buy this one.
This UK R2 Signature release (EAN 5060262856574) comes with no subtitles at all.
Signature Entertainment were notoriously bad for never putting subtitles on their releases but they recently improved. Their releases of All I See is You, Renegades, Jungle, 6 Below & The Exception all came with English subtitles.
They've lapsed again, their last few releases are missing subtitles again.
In 2018 it's ridiculous that they issue DVD releases of films without subtitles especially when the same film was released in the USA several months before with English SDH subtitles. If the subtitles were already available courtesy of Lionsgate then why couldn't Signature include them?
If you have a multiregional DVD player capable of playing region 1 imports, the USA region Lionsgate release (UPC 0031398277378) comes with English SDH & Spanish subtitles.
