About the Author

Becky Wicks was born in 1979. She attended the Gleed School for Girls, also known as 'The Virgin Megastore' in small town Spalding, Lincolnshire, England. She studied media production at Lincoln University, but was writing freelance from the age of 14. She arrived in NYC in 2001 at age 21. She worked for a production company and wrote for a NYC restaurant guide, as well as a Brooklyn community mag (also dated the editor, who broke her heart). Back in London, from 2004 she worked for a travel and entertainment dot com which led her to theatre-land, interviewing West end actors and reviewing more restaurants.

Really enjoyed this witty insight into the real Bali. Well written and really descriptive I now want to visit Bali, to find all the beaches, bars and cafes mentioned in the book, and maybe try some treatments. Loved the way the author threw herself into the local culture, to find out why she had fallen in love with her "little green island". Not a travel guide, this is the authors own account of her life in Bali. Cock fights, yoga, mystics and some very unusual treatments. I will now read her first book, Burqalicious, the Dubai Diaries, about her life in Dubai.

I loved this book so much that I read it in two days and wanted to read more, so it's a good job she's already written Burqalicious about Dubai! Witty and sharp, Balilicious really made me want to visit Bali to experience what Becky had (probably not 'that' beauty treatment though!). It was fascinating to read about the real Bali, away from the ruined tourist areas, and see just why Becky fell in love with the island. There's so much of the place packed into this book too - yoga, eco schools, cat sanctuaries, diving with turtles, cock fights, 'that' beauty treatment, fortune tellers, and so much more exciting stuff. If you want to read a personal account of the Bali beyond the "Julia Roberts Syndrome', this is definitely it.

Another witty travel memoir from Becky! Slightly different to her previous writings in Burqalicious but nonetheless still the same funny, honest, authentic humour that is uniquely hers. The book is set in gorgeous Bali - but not in the usual tourist traps. Its definitely an adventure with lots of unexpected twists and turns in her experiences with the real Bali culture (both good and bad) and you're taken not just on a travel journey but on her own spiritual journey. A must read!

A friend recommended I read this as we're going to Bali together at Christmas for 3 weeks so we read it as research, an insight. But I absolutely love Becky's sarcastic wit and outlook on life. I feel like I myself have uttered some of the very same comedic outbursts.

It's a great read and I can't wait to read her other material.
