Following on from Danny Howells’ brilliantly executed Balance 024 album; Balance Music presents Balance 025 mixed by Danny Tenaglia. It’s been 6 years since Tenaglia’s last mix album “Futurism” was released, and Danny has finally found time in-between his busy tour schedule to create a stunningly sophisticated techno influenced mix. On this particular CD, Danny prefers it to be considered more of a “version compilation”, as opposed to it simply being another “mixed compilation” considering the intense amount of processing that has gone into just about every single track on the album. This mix most definitely leans towards Tech and Techno grooves, as Danny felt it was time to be more about what is current, and happening for him in 2014. We all know Tenaglia likes to get deep and drummy with his music, but that’s not what this CD is about. Overall, this mix reflects many gigs between 2013 & 2014 like Berghain and Panorama Bar in Berlin, as well as the new and wonderful venue called Output in Danny’s hometown of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY - and beyond! Features tracks and remixes from Laurent Garnier, Basement Jaxx, Thomas Schumacher, Nicole Moudaber, Regis, Hot Since 82, Reboot and more…

night with Danny Tenaglia behind the decks at Twilo in NYC in the
late 90's you will know and understand the dark magic that he was
able to create on the dance floor. A subterranean sonic wizard!
This new album (a hefty 38 track collection), his first since 2008's
terrific 'Futurism', proves beyond reasonable doubt that he remains
a master of his craft. There's a whole lot of good stuff here to make
interesting shapes to and lose ourselves in the inimitable grooves.
Mr Tenaglia's sound remains predominately deep and shadowy but
there's always a crisp hi-hat sitting atop the grumbling bass lines
somewhere in the mix to lighten the atmosphere. The effect is both
hypnotic and invigorating in equal measure. So too the inclusion here
and there of quasi-tribal vocal incantations. Another distinctive hallmark.
His management of Ugo Carrano's 'Gbass', with its bubbling percussive
effects and humid, nocturnal rain-forest ululations, is a cracking piece
of sweat-soaked exotica. The harder techo edge of Brian Sanhaji's
sizzling 'Datalogger ((Jonas Kopp Remix V1))' and Lewis Fautzi's 'Binary
((Oscar Mulero Remix))'would doubtless go down a storm at Berghain.
For a taste of what Mr Tenaglis does best, however, you really need to
look no further than the deliriously good opening track 'Tragicaller' by
04LM; as fine a piece of dance music as you are likely to hear this year!
30 years or more in the game and still going strong. Big respect Mr T !!
CD one is an up-tempo tech and techno mix with tribal overtones. The rhythm is infectious. There are traces of Tenaglia's trademark deep house and soul coming through; but only gently. The style is new to me - it sounds like tribal techno and it is an exhilarating listen.
CD two throws all previous Tenaglia styles out the window and settles for a swaggering ride of fast paced techno with prog house overtones. It has got fantastic drive and melody.
The track selection throughout the whole two CDs is superb; without any duds or fillers, and the mixing is faultless. Tenaglia comes from the old school of DJs who don't mind changing the tempo or melody of the mix throughout the CD. They have the talent to mix different melodies and tempos into a homogenous whole. The result is a far more interesting journey than listening to repetitive beats and tunes the whole way through. He also doesn't mind throwing in the odd discordant or disharmonious sound which act as a contrast and swing the momentum around.
Both CDs are very rhythmic, dynamic and upbeat. Each one is only just over 60 minutes long, and with 18 tracks on each CD the mix travels through each tune at quite a pace. The combination of techno tunes with the tribal beat and prog house vision is unbeatable.
A gem of a compilation which is as good as the classics of old; but in a very modern and new way.
