Backlash is the third of Polly Iyer's Diana Racine series and in my opinion, the best, (which is no mean feat when the other two are superb).

For those of you who don't know, Diana is a psychic, who is often called upon by New Orleans Police Lieutenant, Ernie Lucier, and his team of detectives, to help them out with some of their more difficult cases, and help them out she does. When an old friend of Diana is brutally murdered, the team embark on a harrowing investigation, the outcome of which, none of them could ever have imagined.

I loved how the team really gelled in Backlash. Beecher, Cash and Halloran were an integral part of the story, Cash in particular came into his own. Some of the peripheral characters were great too, Miss Kitty, Emile and especially the obnoxious Dave!

The book starts with a bang and pretty much keeps you in suspense until the end. At one point, I was on tenterhooks, I NEEDED to know what happened and read furiously until I found out!

I won't give the story away, I never do, I would hate to spoil things for future readers, especially with a book as good as this. I would suggest reading books one and two first if possible, to really give you a feel for the characters and to find out about their backgrounds.

I just love Polly Iyer's books. They are exceptionally well written, easy to read, with great characters and plot lines. I really hope there is another Diana Racine book in the pipeline, until then, I may just have to go back to book one and read the series again.......actually, that's not a bad idea!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!! 16 April 2015

Now that I've read the last of the series first (yes, I really AM dyslexic), I am going to read the first book. And then the second. After that, I am going to hope and pray that this incredible author will write MORE books in this series!!
The book was FANTASTIC, I read it through, couldn't put it down. Didn't turn on the TV for anything, not even the news.
Never have I done that before.
This lady ROCKS!! One beck of a ride, it is truly addictive.
My only suggestion?
Start from the beginning?
4.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced 26 July 2017
By Constant Reader - Published on Amazon.com

Backlash is a fast-paced novel, difficult for the reader to stop reading until the conclusion. However, I would classify this book more as a "thriller" than a suspense novel because the person behind the mayhem is evident early in the book. If you go in with the expectation of enjoying a fast-paced race by the protagonists to catch all of the involved parties (rather than a mystery), you will be less disappointed. I docked one star because there are a number of spots where poor grammar or awkward writing jolted me out of the well-crafted world that the author created. I'm also really tired of stubborn protagonists who have been shot, are gravely ill, are exhausted beyond endurance, or whatever and still manage to jump up and chase after criminals. Otherwise, the protagonists are a likable and interesting pair.
5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy the ride...I know I did!! 11 Sept. 2015

This book reminds me of the parable of dropping a pebble in a still pool of water and what happens as those ripples get bigger and touch others. Each ripple are the decisions of other peoples lives and how your decision made a change in their life.

What made this book so interesting was the decision one man made caused a ripple that caused everyone work back to find the source. Those secrets, skeletons that we don't perhaps want people to know about.

The author did an awesome job of pulling you right into the dropping of that one decision and then taking you on the ride of learning who did what when and how. You would even begin to question everyone yourself because there was no complete answer until the end.

I will not spoil the ride for anyone, that would just not be fair. What I will say is get comfy, perhaps use a weekend or a long one cause once you start you will not want to get off till you know it all. I would hate to have anyone lose sleep and have to try to go to work. (winks)

Enjoy....I know I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another All Nighter 14 Oct. 2014
By R. Burton Author of The Burgundy Briefcase - Published on Amazon.com

I read the first Diana Racine psychic suspense book to check out Iyer's writing style. She hooked me on the first one, and then the second one, until I had to wait for the third one which has a more complicated plot and and an unpredictable ending. BACKLASH is filled with moral dilemmas and difficult choices. Iyer kept me reading with bated breath for one character to get out of one trap only to have another character fall into a trap. Good characterization and good plot kept me engaged throughout. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery and is not turned off by violence and abuse. BACKLASH pinpoints motivations with empathy and understanding. If you like an engaging mystery at a thriller's pace, this is the book for you.
