Product Description

Product Description

This spectacular live concert, filmed at London s O2 using the latest Ultra High Definition 4K technology, captures Peter Gabriel s celebration of the 25th anniversary of his landmark album So . To mark the event Gabriel reunited his original So touring band from 1986/87 and for the very first time fans saw them play the multi-platinum selling album in its entirety. Whilst the core of the performance is the So album, there is so much more to the concert with unfinished, previously unreleased and re-imagined songs sitting effortlessly alongside classic hits reflecting what a multi-dimensional artist Peter Gabriel is. With innovative lighting and staging, Back To Front offers a visual and narrative feast that puts the viewer inside a concert like never before.

Extremely impressive concert Blu-Ray. Everything about this release is top notch.
Saw this show in Glasgow and brought back some amazing memories. Imagine Spielberg directing
a PG concert is this is what you'd get. Director, Hamish Hamilton has done an amazing job.

Why cannot all concert videos be this good? Excellent picture and superb sound. On top of that you get a mind-blowing reminder of the event.

This is a must for all Peter Gabriel fans.

A rare lapse in Amazon's description. If you think that you are only getting two BluRays you also receive a quality hard back book, and here is the bit that is not in the description, two CDs of the Back To Front set.

Back to Front at first glance seems like an oxymoron. It's a radically new and original retrospective. It's a well crafted and stunningly coordinated journey through the best songs of Peter Gabriel's career, the main event being a full performance of the So album in all it's glory.

It also features two new songs. The first is called Daddy Long Legs and isn't finished. Sung almost completely in Gabrielese (Peter Gabriel's nonsense language), it gives a glimpse into the writing process. The other new song is called Show Yourself and is a moving account of the search for God.

The familiar songs are brilliant as usual and many have been rocked up massively, possibly as a reaction against the recent orchestral tours. Digging in the Dirt and No Self Control are particularly strong and funky in their latest incarnations.

The show comes in three 'servings' as PG described it. The first (the starter) is an orchestral set. Stripped back versions of old songs make up this section. Then halfway through Family Snapshot we move to the main, electronic course. This contains the normal rock versions of other old favourites. The third course (dessert) is the So album followed by the encore.

The show is stunning. The moving light rigs have a life of their own and add power, emotion and beauty in a way that I never would have believed lights could. They rise and fall, line up and even trap Peter Gabriel on the ground during the extremely emotional Mercy Street. The symbolism of this song in particular is beautifully profound.

A concert my wife and I had bought tickets for, but were unable to attend as my wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was about to undergo chemo treatment. Gladly, the concert was filmed and eventually became available on this marvelous CD/DVD set. I have followed Peter Gabriel's solo career since I first saw him on his rather low budget 1st album tour in 1977. My, how things have changed in comparison to the early years!
I am obviously biased, but Peter, entertaining as always, has the crowd in the palms of his hands right from the very start, starting off with an acoustic flavour to his songs, and gradually becoming more and more electric. For me though, things wouldn't be the same if Peter's long time stooge and bassist Tony Levin wasn't there with him on stage, and for that matter guitarist David Rhodes, of whom I have fond memories of falling off the stage when he was in the band Random Hold supporting the Gabriel 1980 tour.
However, I think you have to love Peter Gabriel to enjoy any of this DVD, I can't persuade a non Gabriel fan to purchase this set, but I can recommend it to someone who is thinking about seeing him at the end of this year on the second phase of the So- Back to Front tour. I'm happy to say that my wife and I will be seeing Peter this year, I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
