Jen and Nate are a pair of young adults working at a snooker club owned by one of London's more notorious crime lords k ow only as Crawford. Jen is disillusioned with her lot in life and has a plan to change it all and start afresh. She shares this plan with Nate, who, in a spectacular lapse of common sense and judgement, agrees to go along with it. That plan? To steal the cash that is laundered through the club and run away with it. I know right? As plans go it's up there with clearing up a particularly bad case of constipation with a firecracker. There's only one way this can end and that's messily. But how will it all end? Well that is for you to find out.
Back Door To Hell is a true rollercoaster of a book. Strictly speaking this is a novella; It is short and to the point and really draws you into the story. There is no dead air here; author Paul Gadsby keeps the pace high and the tension is palpable throughout. That is the beauty of the novella form, imo. There is no padding or wasteful passages; it gets to the point and powers through to the inevitable finale. But Paul isn't one to tie up things in a nice little bow and, just like real life, things don't always go as you expect.
I'll say no more except to say that you really should buy this book. Cracking suff.
I don't normally read crime novels but was recommended this book by someone at work. I really enjoyed it, in fact I read it from start to finish in one evening. The characters were believable and the author had obviously done his research in preparation for this book. I would certainly recommend this book.
A superbly written thriller where the author has created such finely detailed characterisation which will make you love, hate and sympathise with the lead characters. The fluency of the book and the 'edge of the seat' moments mean you won't put it down until you know how it ends. A must read for all crime fiction fans.
Cracking read, great plot, tension with a capital T and characters that you’ll love to love and love to hate! From the first to the last page you’ll be swept along never quite sure what’s going to happen next! .. i’m hoping there will be a sequel. Go buy, go read!
A thrilling read from start to finish. A great plot and moments of genuine tension throughout with a climax that plays on the emotions. Gadsby sets the scene from the mean streets of south-east London to a cross-country chase with superbly. A real page-turner.
