5.0 out of 5 stars BIG, BIG SURPRISE ! 13 Sept. 2013

Musically and sonically, this CD was/is a wonderful surprise. Michael Murray's "handiwork" is superb. The various selections are a grand mix of Bach's dynamic and subtle compositions - a varied collection that I find to be very listenable. From an audiophile's perspective, this CD also showcases the Organs of the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles and the gothic 1931 structure that houses them. On a very good audio system, one readily hears the sonic nuances and details that reveal what this "concert hall" and its organs offer the critical listener. A re-issue of one of Telarc's early (1983) digital recordings (originally on an audiophile LP), its producers knew well what they were doing. Recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Disc 15 Jun. 2016

Years later still my favorite disc of Bach organ music. Sure you have heard the D minor T&F a million times (the first few minutes). But every single piece on this disc is a winner. I love the 'mach Vivaldi' piece which is a wild, amazing adaptation of a violin concerto from the L'estro Armonico set. Especially the slow movement of that piece is a revelation. Probably my overall favorite though is the Prelude and Fugue in B minor. Ludicrously beautiful piece that is very moving, does not sound like the archetypal view of Bach: mechanical and highly ordered. The D Major P&F is also great. BTW, the B minor one appears in the great film 'The Innocents' starring Deborah Kerr.
5.0 out of 5 stars Back to Bach 18 Jan. 2016

If you're going to have a well-rounded Bach library, this is a must. I've nothing to add to the raves of the several audiophiles who have already praised this album. I can only say that I was shocked to find that I did not already have a copy of this (gone with the LPs), and after the usual search chose this and am well-satisfied. Just by way of incidental trivia, it turns out that Richard Wagner was a great admirer of Bach and you can hear the proof in the chorus of the valkyries. Just saying.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bought it for Fugue in D Minor, stayed for the dinner! 20 May 2016

If you have ever wanted the Bach organ piece Fugue in D Minor, this is it. I've loved this for years, and this is a great version of it on this album. I bought the album for this one piece, and I've found many jewels. Sorry I'm not more eloquent. I spent 2 years "analyzing" Bach in school... I probably could say a lot. But my teachers said it so much better, and this is just BACH all the way, and done very well on a very impressive organ.
