A programme designed to help introduce infants and toddlers from the age of one to four to the music of Mozart. Brightly coloured visual toys and objects combine with special sound effects to help stimulate and entertain your child; links have now been established between Mozart's music and spatial ability and intelligence, increasing endorphin levels and boosting the immune function in recipients.
Baby Mozart is from the award-winning infant-developmental media company Baby Einstein, whose goal and philosophy is the satisfaction of a child's curiosity through sight and sound. In the main Theatre section of this disc you'll find lots of simple shapes, primary colours and favourite toys passing across the screen. Unlike the simpler earlier releases, this is focused on the works of Mozart, and so just like the Bach and Beethoven releases all the images are choreographed around the chosen pieces of music. This release was named Video of the Year by Child and Parent magazine and is a wonderful expansion of the company's original ideas. It's a slight advancement in expectation of your child from the more basic initial releases but has a Video Tutorial to help the parent understand how it all works.
On the DVD: Baby Mozart is the name of the feature itself, but from the Main Menu you can enter a Concert Hall to replay the musical cues from the main show. Split into three sections (Little Ears, Playtime or Bedtime) you can mix and match from the main feature playlist (for example: Magic Flute, Concerto for Flute and Harp in C and movements from Piano Sonatas in C and D). There's also a Resources section with the aforementioned Video Tutorial and a Toy Chest crediting all the toys used, just in case a certain someone wants one of their own. --Paul Tonks

July 2006 - my daughter is now 3 and still loves to watch back this video - she also loves the Van Gogh, Bach and Shakespeare one (I personally love Van Gogh and Shakespeare ones the best)- will be keeping these for any future grandchildren!!!!!
The video is colourful with a variety of stimuli such as puppets, wind chimes, puzzles and clockwork toys, all repeated at intervals to promote recognition. There are also some suprises - a Lizard that sticks its tongue out and says 'blah' is a firm favourite and well copied.( Though on second thoughts it might be nice to hear my daughter attempting 'mama' for a change!)
The edited UK version loses the after show spiel about 'the Mozart effect' (found on the American VHS) This is unfortunate as it describes how children exposed to Mozart's music show a significant improvement in spatial-temporal reasoning. So perhaps a leaflet in the UK cassette may resolve this?
Finally on another level, I've used the video in my therapeutic work with abused and traumatised children, some of whom have significantly 'calmed' and displayed less challenging behaviour.
However if you are looking for something for your baby/kid to binge watch and give you plenty of free time that isn't your answer. It will maximum give you 30 minutes.
We found it more about interacting with your baby and encourging him to get the rythem right.
