While it's easy to hold it simply doesn't cut well. I'd expected to have to go over each area a few times to get a decent cut but after about 10 goes over just the top of the head it looked like random patches had been taken off and it just wouldn't cut evenly... Now my hair is pretty fine and thin so if it can't handle that then I'm not sure how it will manage someone with thicker hair!
The Wahl Super Taper may not be the easiest thing to hold while cutting your own hair but it does the job -this item is not the solution...
Babylis say "This new revolutionary hair clipper is so easy to use and guarantees an even hair cut, every time." I found this to be totally untrue. I got through the hair on top of my head in no time but almost an hour later, myself and my partner eventually gave up trying to get an even cut behind my ears and along my neck line. It was just impossible to get to. I eventually had to charge up my beat-up old clippers to finish the job. My head was sore from going over it so many times. I am returning this today!
The toughest bit I find about having thinning hair which looks best with a short cut is getting the length even - long bits at the back make an unfortunate hair cut even worse. This is tough with traditional clippers and my previous (and still current) solution is a Philips clipper with a rotating head. This Babyliss device SEEMED to have the answer - universal cutting from a circular cutter, so no long bits and works in all directions.
I charged it up for the full 16 hours, followed all the instructions and was looking forward to trying it out, expecting a quick cut. Firstly, even after 16 hours it sounded awful (probably uses a NiCD battery, and a rubbish one at that) - slowing down on the simplest cuts, sounding like it was going to go flat at any moment. Secondly, it didn't really cut very well or evenly - I ended up with WORSE patches (and rather than long hair, short hair instead) than I get with a normal clipper. Finally, and most critically, using this device HURTS. The guard on it is a hard plastic and it made my scalp red and sore very quickly. If it delivered on the promise of an even quick cut this might be okay, however it doesn't, so repeated trips means ever increasing pain.
In the end, after seeing the mess it was making of my hair, plus the inability to cut the back/sides (as mentioned by others) and pain it was causing, I chucked it in the bin. A bit drastic, but exactly what it deserved.
This promises a lot, however it's delivery is terrible.Read more ›
My best pair of normal clippers are babyliss diamond sharpened ones so I thought these guys might know what they are doing.
In particular the final polished finish to a cut. One of the best features is that happy haircut short velcro finish when you rub short hair the wrong way.
Its really easy with clippers to push a little bit too hard and take too much off in one buzz, knowing when to stop otherwise you end up with a shaven head. Its a lot easier to finish with this rotary cutters than it is with normal ones imho.
Initially the battery pack felt really weak powered and discharged fast. Going from usable to unusably painfully slow. There are multiple plastic guards and the smallest one is very short cut. I set the guard to high and it seemed to work. It did about 2 decent cuts before losing all power.
At one point I thought of taking it back because it didnt seem to have any power, but I'm glad i kept it.
I left it for a week then charged it up for 48 hours and it came back to life better than it had been. I think there might be an issue with the battery recharging.
To begin with I thought it wasnt doing anything but it was cutting very fine, lots of little hairs eveywhere.
The best technique I have found that works for me is to push reasonably hard and rotate the whole thing and move it around the back of my head and sides. The whole thing needs to be CHARGED UP to full and preferably running off mains so that the blades are moving fast or this thing can be painful.Read more ›
