It's pretty bad without the turbo mode turned on, which is only done by holding a button. Why not just make it a switch? Or forget the standard (bad) mode and just have turbo?

Bought this clipper maybe 4-5 years ago, to replace a Wahl model that just died on me way too soon. I give myself a No.1 once a week, and they've never let me down - until now, when the battery died.

Despite the claim that "there is no need to oil the clipper between haircuts", the blades DO need lubricating every time. I use 3 in 1 with PTFE spray (use with care, you only need a dribble), wiping off the surplus, immediately before use, and pull off the blade assembly to clean behind it and lubricate the mechanism with Braun Shaver Cleaner occasionally - apart from anything else, it's a good way to flush out accumulated hair dust, which can clog it.

It does need a couple of passes to achieve a uniform cut, but I've yet to meet a clipper of any make that didn't. Even a hairdresser can't do it in one pass, so don't be put off by those who whinge about this.

For someone about to launch into cutting their own hair for the first time, you need a wall-mounted mirror and a hand mirror - that's the only way you can see the back of your own head, and thus avoid the unfortunate striped effect that screams home-haircut! And don't forget to tidy the neckline at the back with a razor. Cut the hair on top front to back, back and sides from bottom to top, then go over it picking up random hairs that refuse to conform and grow in odd directions. And ALWAYS check you haven't missed a bit!

Contrary to what someone else says, hair does not go everywhere, it falls fairly neatly around you. And on you, so I wear an old T-shirt clipped tightly at the throat with an old crocodile clip - getting cut hair out of body hair is a tedious task so best prevented. It is best to cut in the bathroom, though, as getting cut hair off a carpet is a nightmare.

If I could be bothered using mains power, I suspect my clipper would be good for a lot longer, but I can't so I'm ordering another.

Okay, but not great

These clippers do a good job for their price, however they feel quite lightweight compared to others I have used. I need to go over areas a couple of times for them to cut everything evenly. I've been doing my own hair for years and have had various clippers in the past. These don't feel durable. The fact you need to hold the "extra power" button down is a pain if you are doing your own hair; this should have been a switch.

Clippers are not the most expensive product in the world and you get what you pay for. I recommend spending a bit more and getting a better quality set.
