Accessing the admin of the extender is near on impossible - the required BT Config Software to find the hotspot doesn't work on Macs running El Capitan (USEFUL) and it doesn't show as a connected device in your routers configs. BT rebrand these products from other manufacturers. As such, they know nothing about them, and a call to support or on BT live chat will see you dragged around 101 departments who still cannot help. So if you have a problem with this product, there is NO SUPPORT other than the manual and a few FAQs on the BT website. So if these do not work for you, immediately return to Amazon. After 4 calls (one hour to India, then bounced around UK departments, including being hung up on), 10 tweets, and a 1 hour live chat session, no-one at BT could help me access the admin menu of the hotspot - the config software didn't find it, and they had no idea how to access it without it. Other than send me links to the manual, this was as far as they could help. Useless.
Overall, I would avoid all BT products, they are not worth the hassle - do not trust the brand will save you, it will not!
Of note. Using this product will effectively give you a second wireless network - you do need to set up all your wi-fi devices to work on this network as well. On my phone I had to install a 3rd party app to enable android to automatically switch between the best wi-fi signal, as this is not in the current android OS.
4 Stars only because both the transmitter and receiver are a little bulky, and can just fit into the socket next to a standard plug, but certainly the transmitter might give you pause for thought and a bit of rejigging of plugs.
Before buying you need to work out what you need. There are different kits. Ie hard cable connections. Or wife connections.
My pc never used to get Internet. And when it did barely a few kb. Now I download at 5mb. Ie 1000 tines faster.
BUT. and it's a big one.
The wifi produced has its own code. Ie your home Internet is BT1. The wifi from your extender is BT2. Then any and each extender becomes Bt3 and so on. The issue is phones and devices are thick. My phone is paired with every different Internet. But it doesn't link automatically to the strongest. So I fight for wifi despite being 1metre from the booster. I have to manually tell my device to pick the stronger signal.
This is the same on the Samsung. iPhone and iPad. Some devices let you clone the wifi hotpot they produce. I believe the mini kit does. It is well worth checking if this feature is present. If not it turns an easy 5* product to 2*
You were warned.
Anyway, moan over. Plugged in and connected the Extender plug to the router and then plugged the Hotspot plug in another room. So easy to install. My iPad has gained a new lease of life! Where I could sometimes get a slow and patchy connection I now have a blisteringly fast connection. Logged onto ebay in seconds, mail arrived instantly and everything seemed to have new life.
We cannot try the Ethernet connection as yet as we're waiting for a new Sky+HD box to arrive plus a new TV as ours gave up last week. Once we've got our new kit we'll connect it up and I'll report back.
So, I am pleased with this kit - it does what it says on the box - but I still maintain that it's only given us what we were promised with Infinity in the first place. But it's solved whatever failings the Infinity hardware has so I have to give it five stars.
