BT Video Baby Monitor 7500 Lightshow
So why BT for your baby monitor ?
BT has a long history with baby monitors. Our previous monitors have won almost every award available, including the prestigious Which? Best Buy, Mother & Baby Gold and Prima Baby & Pregnancy Platinum.
BT has been the bestselling digital audio baby monitor brand every year since 2010 (Source: NPD 2013).
The BT Video 7500 Lightshow was designed in the UK. We work with real mums and dads throughout our product development to make sure we get the product just right.
BT Video Baby Monitor 7500 Lightshow
The BT Video Baby Monitor 7500 Lightshow gives you peace of mind when your baby is resting or sleeping peacefully. There are a host of features to help your baby drift off to sleep and let you get on with things.
Once your baby is asleep, you won’t want to wake him or her up. The adjustable nightlight allows you to find your way around baby's room without having to turn on the main light.
Unlike some video monitors, the night vision lights on the baby unit of the BT 7500 Lightshow are completely invisible when it is dark. This means it’s sure not to disturb your child.
It has a huge range of up to 50m indoors and 300m outdoors, so you can be sure to always be in contact as you move around your home.
There is a dock included for easy charging. The parent unit uses Micro USB for its power cable. This is handy as it means you can also charge it with most other Micro USB chargers. Other features include a mute function, crying alert, low battery alert and out of range alert. The baby unit has a tripod thread and is wall mountable (screws included).
The BT Video 7500 Lightshow supports up to 4 cameras at once. You can watch all 4 on split screen and then easily see one full screen if you hear a noise. The sound feed cycles between each camera or you can choose to switch sound manually between cameras.
So when you want to watch TV or make the dinner in the other room, but want total reassurance that your baby is safe and sound in the cot, the new BT Video Baby Monitor 7500 Lightshow is the Baby Monitor for you.
Crystal Clear HD Sound
Like the other monitors in BT’s range, the BT Video 7500 Lightshow has crystal clear HD sound and a talk-back feature. The two way talk-back allows you to calm your baby when you’re not in the room, while the Hi-definition Sound is sensitive enough to pick up babies breathing. Once your baby is asleep, you won’t want to wake him or her up. The adjustable nightlight allows you to find your way around baby's room without having to turn on the main light.
Built in Light Show
A built in light show projects dreamy images of stars and moons onto the ceiling. The gentle shapes help calm your baby. The 19 built in lullabies feature classical music and traditional nursery rhymes – from Mozart to ‘Twinkle, twinkle’. It also a white noise generator with specially tested sounds that help babies sleep including ocean waves, simulated womb sounds and even a hairdryer.
3.5 inch Touchscreen
The 3.5 inch touchscreen has a fantastic 480x320 pixels resolution. This is double the number of pixels of our previous video monitor, the BT Video 1000. This means you’ll have a much better, clearer view of your little one. The display is so advanced, there is even a smartphone style automatic brightness setting. This is good for evenings when you don’t want to be disturbed by a bright screen.
Move Camera remotely
You can move the camera remotely from another room easily by using the touchscreen controls on the parent unit. You can even zoom in up to 3 times to check they are really asleep. The camera can rotate 300 degrees around and point down 50 degrees into the cot. This means it is not only a good baby monitor, but also very useful to have in a playroom when your children are a little older.

It was well presented on arrival, easy to set up and it does work. The camera works, the steering works, the sound works, the lightshow (stars) works, the soothing sounds work (although I'm not sure who finds a motorboat on a lake soothing!)
The problem is in the finer details. Particularly the video and audio quality. I didn't find the video blurred, but the blockiness of the JPEG compression means that I can't see our baby breathing from a half metre away, even on full zoom. Admittedly he doesn't move much, but less compression would make this system better. The video also flickers annoyingly in brightness every few seconds. The video quality has been getting worse over time; after a year, there's so much video noise (see attached still) that it breaks the compression and the video only updates at about 1-2 frames per second, which isn't very useful any more.
Similarly the "HD Sound for crystal clear audio so sensitive you can hear your little one breathing" does no such thing. With maximum volume on the parent unit, I hold it right next to my ear and all I can hear is windy rushing/rumbling. Not breathing.
Because of this, I can't tell if our baby is breathing, so it does not give me the advertised "total reassurance that your baby is safe and sound in the cot."
The use of Micro USB connectors is a terrible idea. The camera is heavy enough that it damaged the connector when it was knocked off its perch, and it's been a terrible faff to find the exact position where it works (gets power) ever since. It randomly loses power for the same reason (and we have to go in and fiddle with it again to get it back). They could at least have oriented the connector so that the camera's weight doesn't fall on the plug (and thus the connector) when it falls and rolls (which it does, being round like an egg).
After a year of use, the receiver's battery life is down to about 4 hours, so it runs out around when we go to bed, not ideal. After 18 months, it died completely (receiver refuses to power up, even after charging).
Easy to control from base unit, touch screen, easy to add additional cameras. If I'm walking around I sometimes put the stand in my back pocket as a clip if I'm wearing tight jeans so that it's hands-free, though I'm not taking responsibility for dropped monitors, this is definitely not something BT recommend.
I would like to add that although I have, I don't generally use the light show. If you want to attach to the wall and use the light show it needs to be preplanned, where I have placed the monitor is practical for me as I only need to view the cot.
I could have just been unlucky but from what I read it seems like some owners were experiencing the same thing. So I decided to return the monitor and purchase a Foscam FBM3501, which turns out blows the BT model out of the water for picture quality .
I've included an image of the two products taken at the same time and at night for comparison.
