My other half said it was extremely easy to set up and add contacts to. It has a nice ringtone that is loud enough to hear in the whole house. He quite likes it and thinks its an improvement on our previous phone.
I, on the other hand, have my doubts. To me, it feels enormous and extremely cheaply made, considering its price. It reminds me of a play mobile phone that a toddler might have. I want a phone that I can speak to people on and that can record messages. I have an iPad and an iPhone that are perfectly apt at going on the Internet and checking emails. We won't be setting up an email account on the home phone as you can only set up one. The camera seems quite good but, again, I don't think we'd use it.
When I'm reviewing things like this, I always think would I pay the money. And, no I wouldn't. This phone doesn't do anything that your mobile won't and it all seems to be unnecessary. I like the fact it's touchscreen but I don't think you need a lot of the other stuff. My other half would probably say the complete opposite!
EDIT 30/07 - we've been using this for nearly two weeks now and I dislike it even more than I did. I find it really quiet and its difficult to hear the person at the other end, even with the volume on full. Also, if you leave the phone off the stand for five minutes or more it screeches until you put it back on. So annoying. Even my other half isn't as impressed as he was, therefore, it's lost another star.
I have to say that I am quite impressed with the quality and style of this phone. It really does look and feel like a mobile. However, BT have missed a trick by not adding Bluetooth. Now the phone does come with a micro SD card, so you probably could transfer numbers from your mobile - but you would have to remove the back of your phone, remove the battery, add in the card, transfer the numbers and then remove the card and put it back in your mobile. I had tried to add contacts to the phone manually, but they instantly vanished. I didn't realise you had to mess on and add the contact then go into the menu again to save it.
So the instruction booklet you get isn't really that good, it's basically a quick start guide. It tells you nothing about how to set the phone up and set up contacts etc.
As the telephone is WiFi you have to plug the hub into your telephone socket and electrical socket. You also need an electric socket for your telephone, but your telephone doesn't need to be anywhere near the hub. Which is good if you are stuck for sockets.
One of the problems I have found is that sometimes, the telephone doesn't fit onto the base charger properly. When it is on the base charger the phone emits a tone, so it's one to keep an ear open for. Another issue is the onscreen keyboard is a bit small, anyone with large fingers will struggle to type anything properly.
The ringtones on the telephone are very high quality, and you can set tones for loads of things.Read more ›
The phone itself looks great - probably one of the nicest looking on the market and you could easily imagine it in a home office scenario next to your Macbook and Anglepoise desktop lamp with your suave cup for your freshly brewed coffee. In reality due to the clunky operating system it is more apt for your chewed biro, old desktop running xp and a 1987 Coventry City Fa cup winners mug.
So dear BT, please take some good advice. The phone looks great but spend more time on the operating system. You are not designing a mobile - it is a home phone where sound quality is king and the most important button is answer the call and end the call rather than menu/options/launch attack against north korea.
Wish I could like it but...... I can't.
I can't recommend it.
To transfer music, videos, pictures etc to the phone via your PC just plug in the USB cable from phone to PC. Then you just click on USB button on your phone and the drive pops up just like a hard drive on your PC so you can transfer or delete files to and from your phone.
The music player works great and is pretty loud enough for a phone and decent quality but not very bass which you can't get much out of phones anyway. However it tends to crash a lot so you don't want to be playing music while running other apps too much. The radio tunein app is great and you can save all your fave radio stations into this. If you download the pro version of this for under a pound you get the record feature too. I can only give it 3 stars because the crashing is a big let down otherwise its a great phone.
