Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

I also looked on the web to find out how to separate the 2.4 GHz band from the 5 GHz band so as to be able to use them as separate wireless connections. I did this and it has worked well. On the 2.4 GHz band I can see 10 or 11 other routers crowded into the same set of wavebands that I'm using. On the 5 GHz band, I'm all on my own with no interference at all. So, if the 2.4 GHz band lets me down, I can always switch to the 5 GHz one but, so far, I haven't needed to. On the basis of my experience so far, the HomeHub 5 looks like a good buy.
The wireless connection is also noticeably quicker than with the older hub and the signal is stronger right throughout our admittedly small terraced house. I would recommend this piece of kit and it missing five stars only because I haven't had it for very long so I can't be absolutely certain yet but if it keeps performing like this, I'll come back and give it five stars. Also at this price, it's a steal!
I have found this new BT model to be a significant improvement on my Plusnet supplied Technicolor router. For a start you can dispose with the Openreach modem and just rely on this light-weight, attractive unit alone. The 802.11n 5GHz in the same room is very fast and makes the most of the 76Mb fibre connection without needing to use an ethernet cable. The 5MHz signal quickly drops off through a wall however but the 802.11n 2.4GHz has a decent range and speed. I found selecting the channel myself worked better than the Smart channel selection of the router. I have read that it is recommended you try cycling through channels 1,7,11,3,9,13 until you find the best one for your setup and I found optimum range using this technique. I do not have an 802.11ac device to test the newer standard which promises better range and speed but its great to have that available for the future.
I suspect that the more expensive Asus and Netgear routers will have slightly better range given their high-gain antennae but then they cost nearly double the price and don't generally include the built-in VDSL router. For that price you can buy a wifi range extender or invest in Powerline adaptors which do not rely on wireless signals.
In my view it would have been nice to have the ability to set up a guest network for visitors to use, but that is a fairly niche function and otherwise I would recommend this excellent router.
WiFi connection appeared on my Samsung S5, connected in seconds and working well
PC was just as simple, al I got was a dialog box saying the computer was connected to a network, I chose Home Network and boom... all done
Samsung TV, on the network, no faffing about with settings. Never used Smart Setup and the rant about BTBroadband Help installing without given any choice in the matter, not sure what that was all about
For now, it is running perfectly and I am happy
As for reliability, stability, having only had it connected for about an hour now, Who knows.. The WiFi signal is certainly far better, I can even use the phone in the garage at the other end of the garden, about as far away from the house as I can get , without leaving the premises, could never do that with the Hub 3
My reason for upgrading, had nothing to do with hoping for faster upload/download speeds or more reliable wifi.. It was more to do with keeping things simple.. Getting rid of two bits of kit and the extra cabling required and trimming it down to one piece of kit, just looks better.
Yes, if you are already with BT, you can get one for only £50.. but I wanted it fast, so happy to pay the extra
