BT’s award-winning baby monitor range just got even better

The New Baby Monitor Pacifier comes with a projected lightshow, MP3 connection, HD-sound and a wider range of lullabies – giving you even more peace of mind with your baby. Voted the 'Best Baby Monitor Brand' by Prima Baby & Parenting Magazine and also the best-selling digital baby monitor brand since January 2010 (Source: NPD, Aug 2011), BT has recently has refreshed its award-winning baby monitor range with the Baby Monitor 200 and 250. Now, we are pleased to announce the new arrival - the Baby Monitor Pacifier (aka ‘The Pacifier’), which will improve the way mums and dads use their baby monitors.

Calm and relax your baby with the projected lightshow and a selection of lullabies

So what’s so good about the Pacifier?

HD Sound and Parental Talk-back

Like the BT Baby Monitor 200 and 250, the Baby Monitor Pacifier has crystal clear HD sound, and a talk-back feature. The parental talk-back allows you to calm your baby when you’re not in the room, while the Hi-definition Sound (Hi-dS) ensures no more crackling sounds or interference.

Projected Light Show and Lullabies

The Pacifier comes with a "starry night" projected light show combined with a wide-range of lullabies (from Mozart to "twinkle, twinkle"), all of which have been proven to calm and relax babies.

Auxiliary iPod / MP3 Music Input

The Pacifier also has an iPod / MP3 connection so that you can play the baby its favourite song – or just listen to your own music while you’re changing nappies!

Huge Range

It has a huge range of 50m indoors and 300m outdoors, so you can be sure to always be in contact as you move around your home.

The screen on the parent unit allows you to check the temperature, set reminders, and change lullabies, all from downstairs

Rechargeable Batteries

The parent unit contains rechargeable batteries, giving you the freedom to move around and normally within your home while still keeping contact with your baby.

Nightlight and Torch

Once baby is asleep, you won’t want to wake him or her up. The featured nightlight and torch functions allow you to find your way around baby's room without having to turn on the main light

Check the Temperature, Set Reminders

The BT Baby Monitor Pacifier comes with a screen on the parent unit that allows you to check the temperature in the room, change the lullabies and set reminders, wherever you are. The Pacifier also includes a temperature-changing nightlight that shows you at a glance how warm or cold baby's room is.

Alerts and Reminders

The monitor allows you to set a reminder for bed time, feeding or even your favourite TV programme. All of our monitors come with various modes of alerting you to sounds in the baby's room – full sound monitoring, beeping, flashing lights, or vibrating - ideal for when you’re busy doing other things and need to put the monitor in your pocket.

Travel Bag

The BT Baby Monitor Pacifier comes with a handy travel bag, allowing you to easily bring the monitor with you when you’re out and about visiting relatives.

Getting the Best from Your BT Monitor

Easy Set Up

  • Activate the batteries by ensuring that the plastic tag at the bottom of the Parent Unit is completely removed
  • Connect one of the power adaptor cables into the socket on the back of the Parent Unit charger, connect to a mains electrical socket and switch on
  • Place the Parent Unit onto charge and ensure that the red charging light on the charger unit is illuminated and that the battery icon on the Parent Unit is scrolling
  • Leave the Unit on charge for approximately 16 hours--You can speed up the charging process by switching the Parent Unit off
  • Connect the remaining power adaptor cable into the socket on the back of the Baby Unit and connect this to a mains electrical socket and switch on. Once the units are linked, the green Link indicators on the Parent and Baby units will stop flashing and remain a steady green
  • Should you encounter any problems during this process, please call the BT helpdesk on *free phone 0808 1006554
*Calls made from within the UK mainland network are free. Mobile and international call costs may vary.

Encountering a Beeping Noise

If you hear a ‘beeping’ warning noise from the Parent unit but are not sure why, we offer the following advice:

  • Is the link light also flashing? Check that the Baby Unit is illuminated. If it is not, please ensure that the power adaptor is still connected and if this still does not switch on, please test using a different electrical socket
  • Check that the Feed Timer is not set
  • Check that the Crying Alert is not switched on
  • Is the temperature icon also flashing? Is the temperature too hot? If so, adjust the temperature alert
Additional Guidance Tips
  • Try switching the Baby Unit off at the power and removing the batteries from the Parent Unit for approximately 30 minutes
  • Ensure that none of the buttons are stuck down. If they are, trying cleaning first with a damp cloth or call the helpdesk for advice
  • Try calling the free BT Helpdesk on 0808 1006554 to talk to an advisor

We've used this monitor for 2 1/2 months and so far it has worked fine. We have one minor quibble and one major: the minor one is that when you connect an iPod or mp3 player to play your own music through the monitor, the volume was very very low; we ended up using a pair of old computer speakers instead.

The major problem (which we had read about before the purchase but hoped it had been fixed in the meantime; it hasn't) is that after just 2 1/2 months the rechargeable batteries in the parent unit can't hold a charge for more than about 2 hours, which is ridiculous (they weren't that great to begin with, barely held for about 6 hours or so). To add insult to injury, even though they seem like normal AA rechargeable batteries, they're actually about 1mm shorter, and the parent unit is designed in such a way that it only allows the space to put in their short batteries and you can't insert regular, higher-capacity rechargeable batteries (the original batteries our unit came with are 1300mAh, 1.2V LR6/AA made in China by Corun, which is quite low-capacity). This is obviously intentional on the part of BT because they want to sell you the same crap 'custom-size' batteries over and over again. A bit weird that this monitor which is a pricy, high-quality product, is saddled with garbage rechargeables which, if you read other reviews, are its main weak point.

BT customer service is pitiful (more details below) and their only solution is to have you shell out more of your cash for more of their crap batteries. We were so fed up with them that we took matters into our own hands: we realised that by carefully shaving off a bit of the plastic inside the parent unit (about 1mm), you can enlarge the space and fit in regular rechargeable batteries.

Bought this about 15 months ago but didn't start using it until Feb 2013 and like other reviewers I am now going to have to buy another baby monitor.

There seems to be two problems with this product:
    Problem 1:
The rechargeable batteries do not last very long. After about 4 months the charge in the battery will only last for a maximum of two hours. Having decided that we needed to replace the batteries we discovered that the batteries for this are not standard size and cannot be bought in supermarkets/ordinary shops (only found this after purchasing some). I had to buy new ones of the internet. But again the charge in these only last a couple of weeks and then same problem returns.
    Problem 2:
The parent unit switches itself off intermittently - don't think this needs much explanation. You cannot monitor your child if your handset is switched off!

I like other reviewers bought this despite the negative reviews as I just assumed these people had been unlucky. Please do not make the same assumption and save yourself some money and but another product.

I'll write this review in case it's useful to new and expecting parents out there. I did quite a lot of research before selecting what baby monitor to buy and I'm pleased I settled on the BT Digital Baby Monitor and Pacifier. I'll explain why.

The market is saturated with baby monitors. It's an important purchase and you need to get it right, and there are loads of devices out there to suit anyone's budget. You can spend just over a tenner, or a grand, it's your choice. I didn't trust a gadget that was cheap so I opted to go for a mid-priced option.

I knew that I wanted a monitor that would have plenty of features, and one that would last several years, where the features would prove useful over time. I also knew I didn't want a monitor with video playback because we were worried we might obsess over it otherwise, constantly checking on our little rascal while he tossed and turned or stuck his middle finger up at the camera. No, not for me thanks.

So when I read reviews of this one I was immediately drawn to it because it also claimed to be a pacifier. Now anything that will pacify an unsettled baby at the push of a button has my attention immediately! The monitor offers the choice of giving them a light show, or playing music to soothe them - either a mix of soothing tunes that are built into the monitor, or you can go one step further by plugging in an iPod and selecting your own playlist. The other thing I liked about it is it claimed to have high definition sound, so I knew this was the one for me, and generally it had good reviews by other users - an average of four stars on Amazon based on 192 reviews.

Our son is nearly seven months old now so I'll base this review on the time we've spent using it.

Echoing other reviews the feature set of this product is rich and well designed. However the implementation is lacking quality. Initially issues with charging the handset followed by handset switching itself off and battery refusing to recharge on the base station. This was followed by not being able to switch on the handset at all. Given it was well out of the warranty date, taking the handset apart shows switches on a printed circuit board (PCB) at the top of the unit where the power buttons, mute button etc. are located. These are placed at right angles to the direction in which the buttons are pressed which I believe is a design flaw as each time you press a button (particularly the power button), you are putting force on the switch that is soldered onto the PCB in a way that over time will weaken the solder and cause the switch to break off the PCB with the inevitable consequence that the unit will fail to operate eventually. I managed to remedy this by resoldering the switch back on (a fiddly job to say the least). This worked temporarily but unfortunately after another 6 months the switch came off again hence my strong feelings this is a design flaw/quality issue. Therefore I can certainly NOT recommend this product particularly if you are thinking of using it for the long term and potentially for more than one child.
