About the Author

Maurice Dart was born in Plymouth and, apart from a period in Gibraltar, he has lived in Devon and Cornwall for all of his life. The interest in railways was bred into him almost from birth and has stayed with him. He was educated at Sutton High School, Plymouth followed by Plymouth & Devonport Technical College and worked as a chemist in the China Clay industry for thirty seven years.Through his work connections he gained an intimate knowledge of the Lee MoorTramway and of China Clay railway operations by the main line railway companies. Following retirement he works as a volunteer on the Bodmin & Wenford Railway mainly in the shop or escorting visiting enthusiasts around the railway.

The cover and title sounded promising so I bought a copy. Oh dear. How disappointing. Some of the photographs used I wouldn't show to anybody. The one that springs to mind is of a class 46 arriving at a station on a freight with a lamp post slap bang in the middle of the front of the loco, with the comment that 'beggars can't be choosers'!
Other photographs are either too light or too dark and at times in a seemingly random order. It only got the one star because there are, for me, some local interest shots.

I've plenty of other books covering the same period so I know it can be done.

Overall very disappointed.

This must be the worst railway book I have ever bought. (Unfortunately the review was not available when I did purchase it). The photographs are either under exposed, over exposed, out of focus or suffer from bad composition. Some are a combination of all four! Fortunately I was able to re-sell mine to a book seller.

The old adage of "there is a book in everybody" is sadly true in this case, I just hope he doesn't bring out "Volume 2" because if these are the best efforts I really don't want to see the ones that didn't make the first cut....
