Product description
Elliot Tittensor (TV s Shameless) stars as Daz in headlining film PROTECT ME FROM WHAT I WANT, a gripping British film debut that sees him woo a young lad in an underpass, only to be threatened with a break-up the following morning. Passive and submissive roles are tackled and tugged in gay graffiti tale VANDALS and Icelandic grapple-fest WRESTLING, while POSTMORTEM, MY NAME IS LOVE, and Iris Prize winner STEAM look at promising encounters that turn awry.
Rounding out the collection are HEIKO, an alternative ode to foot fetishes, BREATH where 12 year old Erik swims out to sea to make a daring move on his best friend s father, and the crème de la crème from this collection TREVOR, which won multiple prestigious awards from Sundance, Teddy Berlinale and even The Academy Awards (Oscar) for Best Short Film.

The general theme for this collection is desires, which makes this collection incredibly emotive; including the title film 'Protect Me From What I Want', the British film in the collection, which is incredibly simple in it's writing and direction, but wonderfully and powerfully effective. It however, isn't the standout film in this collection.
For me, the standout film is 'Vandals', a Swiss-German film with incredibly simplistic dialogue and wonderful imaginary and filmography work- it's powerful in it's message and story without trying too hard to be artist.
I'm also a massive fan of 'Heiko', a Portuguese film with a twisted plotline and is almost a silent film in the sense that the actions speak louder than words, and also of 'Breath', with is lovely and touching- again it takes the silent film approach which makes the viewing even more effective.
Alongside these gems are 'Trevor', 'Postmortem' and 'My Name Is Love'- each of which holds a certain amount of charm, all wonderfully shot and penned and each are as though-provoking as the next. In particular, 'Trevor' holds a certain level of excellent wonderment about it; it's gloriously written and darkly funny, and 'My Name Is Love' is dangerously gripping and emotively moving, and is incredible in the way it is played out, with outstanding acting.
Of course, with the highs come the lows- I really failed to connect with 'Wrestling', despite how wonderfully shot it was, and 'Steam', which feels completely lost in this collection of films, although it does have a pretty clever twist to it's story!
On the whole, I was very impressed with this collection- poignant, moving and incredibly thought provoking- it's a definite must for anyone who is a fan of decent quality, artistic and independent short-films.
In my opinion this is an excellent set of films. They are all independent and all have a clear integrity - they have been chosen with reason for various film festivals around the world. So, although of course you will like some more than others, this will be a matter of taste rather than quality.
I liked them all - each has a strong idea and each makes its point, like a short story, in the short time the writers/directors have allowed themselves. 'Wrestling' stood out for me, and the writing and structure of 'Postmortem' is a delight. 'Steam' is a nice homage to Satre and Heiko wonderfully weird. But they're all good and I will return to several to watch again.

These short films are very well done, very smart, and very emotional. Strongly recommended.
