One or two typo errors have appeared in this. Sergeant Mick Hill is mentioned as being a good friend early in this story. He was murdered in the previous book. Typo's and other editing issues occurred in the Bermondsey series. It is a shame that they have returned here as I would have liked to score this higher as the raw sex and violence add to the grit of these current day stories.
This picks up six months on from Serial Killer. I gave that a four star review on Thursday 28 May 2015.
This time around. An innocent bystander, a retired pensioner by the name of David Kane is murdered by a police officer who is oblivious as to what he has done in a riot that is triggered by aggro merchants during a peaceful protest march about energy costs in central London.
The policeman is informed the next day of his actions by senior Scotland Yard officers.
To protect himself and with the intention of keeping this revelation away from the media. He agrees to do the dirty work of the corrupt senior men whilst carrying on with his regular duties.
Karen Foster is finding wine and having sex with men after being a lesbian a stress reliever. Her former lover Chau has also walked away from that life and unlike Karen has found happiness with her man.
Karen and her latest lover who also finds a release in alcohol. The pair are regulars in the pubs in the Surrey countryside. His name is Simon Kane. The son of the man that lost his life by the actions of a policeman during a rampage.
When some police work comes in. Coincidences dictate that Karen comes across details that will test professional and personal life to the limit.
To mention that DI Karen Foster is professional is wrong. As well as the heavy drinking the woman is a nymphomaniac and experiments whenever, wherever and with whoever regardless of the consequences. To add to this mix she is a right cow.
But taken all things onboard I enjoyed this tale that focussed on bent coppers and liked that the other detectives at Epsom police station had their characters developed.
There is the usual good crime plot from this author but it is DI Foster's personal life which for me makes the book a must read. She continues to be uncertain whether she prefers male or female sexual partners and long may that continue as it makes for some hot scenes with each sex and then a threesum!
The plot takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and uncertainty as to how it will end but no spoilers here! The author builds the suspense and you won't want to stop reading!
It isn't essential to have read the previous books by the author to enjoy this one but I would recommend doing so.
